OK here goes-

Handling wise you will feel the most changes depending on what tire sizes you decide to run.
if you run 275's all around you will feel the weight of the tires and the sluggishness from the fat sidewall and big O.D.
if you run 255's it wont be so bad and might be pretty nice depending on your alignment settings to provide some help in turn in and repsonsiveness.
if you run 235's or 245's up front it will feel very nimble and tight, probably what most people would want, but some people hate the look of a stretched tire, even though some newer tires like the Falken FK452 in 245/40R17 is a very wide tire and very short O.D. tire that is probably a great fitment for an FD front street tire on a 17x10 wheel (I had them on the back of my S14 with a 17x9.5)

you want the deepest (highest) offset possible for an FD to run the 17x10's.
BUT with 20mm overfenders you can run a +25 pretty easily I would think, maybe even a +15, it really depends on your suspension settings and tire choice.
there are plenty of pics in here of people running 17x10 +35 all around on an FD but with rolled fenders and they are VERY flush, they look pretty damn good with a little camber dialed in.
just remember the 17x10 wheels are heavy as lead compared to other wheels out there like a 17x9.5 Enkei RPF1 that might be a better choice in the same price range if you dont mind the RPF1's looks.

 

only running 245's? some 245's are designed to fit up to a 9.5" wheel so a 10" is not much of a stretch at all.
also there are all of the arguments for a lightweight tire and for a maximized contact patch by running a slight stretch.

Ive run a 285/40R17 on a 17x10 and there is no doubt that it has more grip than a 245/45R17 on the same wheel but its a marginal gain that is pointless for anything other than competition and even then the 285's feel floaty and fat and bloated... not always something you desire, as well as the 285's and most 275's being WAY tall of a tire and preventing the car from being run nice and low, you have to think about clearance in the wheel well and to the frame, the smaller width tires can also provide a smaller OD which is great for clearance and may benefit in a shortening of the effective gearing.

 

and its prnounced... "go-shee-gen" not "five zigen" ppl will think your more jdm too

 

i'm with habu2, it seems like too many people are forcing rims that just don't belong on the car just for a certain "look". i don't think that anyone here would buy a full 3.5" exhaust system and then get a 1.5" muffler just because they like the look of the tip... what the hell ever happened to caring about performance?? same goes for these rims; those who want the precious concavity on the front and rear are stretching 235's & 245's on a 10" tire which IMHO does not look anything close to what a properly mounted & matched tire should then they continue to force the fit by rolling fenders setting high cambers and praying that the tire wall slope due to the rediculous stretch will squeak out a tiny fender clearance... next thing i know you guys are going to be telling me this is great a fit too!

please people... fit the rims & tires to the car; don't fit the car to the rims.

 

since this is a thread about FN01RC's, i ran 17x10 all around because i liked the concaved face of the wheel. if i wanted a flat faced wheel i woulda got something wrong wheel drive (FWD)

 

if any one is thinking of selling theirs, pm me im looking for a set of 17x10 +35mm

im buying feed replica front fenders and then rolling and pulling my rears. hopefully it turns out nice

 

yeah im rice so i want the concave in the front too but i plan on autox this car alot so im worried how this will effect the performance..

 

just buy some wider front fenders or stretch them and you can always pull the back fenders as well to fit different tires. as posted above the 17x10 setup with stretched tires will still handle well the car will be very nimble.

I did choose to go with 17x10" up front because of the nicer looking concave face. But I honestly don't feel that I gave up anything performance-wise. I have 255/40/17 in the front which is enough tire (I won't ever feel the need for more rubber in the front). This is not even considered a stretch and is not a bad fit on a 10" wheel at all.

I did have to roll the fenders, but that really was not a big deal to me. I used to have a very very minor rubbing issue on the front of the fender liner, but my car is also slammed. With some strategic zip-tieing of the harness that run through the fender, as well as ziptieing the fender liner itself, it is no longer an issue, and probably wouldn't even require any fender liner modification if my front were an inch higher.

Was it worth the 20 minutes of modification with no trade-off (IMO) to get a much better looking wheel (once again IMO) to work with no issues? Defintely. I am damn sure the others with 10" up front will have the same answer.

 

/\/\/\/\ right on, I think a 255 up front is a great choice for an FD being used like you are doing.

plus you can run a 255 or 275 out back and have a nice setup and very good tire selection.

 

i just bought tires for my 17x10's all around today i went with a 235/40 in the front and a 255/40 in the rear. i will prob end up going wider in the front especially if i decide to get the feed replica front fenders

my coilovers still need to go on and my wheel gap is terrible!! i also am getting a 99spec lip soon and putting my FEED sideskirts on. let me know what you think!! the car is also very dirty and needs an paint job so don't hate im also thinking of going with feed 25mm front fenders... enjoy!

as of right now im on stuck suspension im putting some stance gr+pros on soon. the tire sizes are 235/40's in front and 255/40's in the rear. there is no rub at all. i should have the coilovers on soon i will have to post more pictures then. i love these wheels

 

255. When I need to get new tires for the rear though I'm going with 275 or 285/35. Will fit with rolled rears.

i saw a local rx7 mounted with FN01 17" and i like it alot .anyone here have some 17" FN01 for sale? i wanna get a set of 17" for track, i preferred to get 17x9+35 and 17x10 +35 setup in blk w/ polish lip, i can trade in with my Enkei RP03 or RPF1, both 18x8.5 +35 and 18x9.5 +35.

 

Does anyone know where to get a set of these in hyper black??? I have a set of the silver that are 17 x 10 all the way around with a +25. Fitment is PERFECT. they look great. i just like the hyper black and want a set of them. Is it worth selling the ones i have and try to locate a set in hyper black? or does anyone know who can powder coat the ones i have hyper black etc....
