225/50r15 on 6" gxl rims

these do not work in the front. they will require a spacer or coilovers. i just wanted to put a thread up as a warning to anyone like me that doesn't read EVERY thread pertaining to tire size and, after the first three, deems it that 225 is as wide as you can go. seems this works fine on tII wheels. not on 15"x6" gxl rims. just trying to save someone else my headache. feel free to poke fun now.

I'm running Kumho Ecsta V700s 225/50/15s on 15" x 6" GLX wheels with no problem at all. No rubbing with stock suspension. They work great. I know hoosiers are wider than kumhos for the same tire size and could possibly rub up front.

Hoosiers are wider for a given size than the Kumhos. If you are going to use the Hoosiers, which are probably the best Autox tires around, you'll need the spacers.

I've found that Kumhos have a slight edge on asphalt surfaces, and Hoosiers are the ticket for the concrete at the Solo 2 Nationals.

I don't know anything about your ride, but what year/model do you have and what style tire were you trying?

I have read a couple posts about putting 225/50/15 tires on stock 15" BBS rims and GXL/GTU rims w/o any problems.

I would like input sooner than later if possible, b/c I am planning on ordering my new 225/50/15 tires in about a week.

Thanks and good luck to ya on your next tire investment.

I ran 225-50-15's for almost a year, did not have a problem with running them as far as rubbing BUT, handleing did suffer, the 6" wide rims isnt wide enough to reinforce the sidewall and the tires will roll under themselves during hard cornering.

I recently purchased a set of bbs "vert" rims for a forum memer (thank you sean) and the STOCK 205-50-15's acctually handle better than the fat, undersupported 225's. I'm sure the 6.5" (1/2" wider) rim helps too.

Unless your running a 7-7.5" wide rim 225-50's just arn't going to handle correctly compared to the factory tire size.

EDIT: Unsure how 225 - 50's would grip while mounted on bbs 6.5" rims.
