205 VS 225 Tires... Advantages/Disadvantages

Im looking at some tires..
Debating to stick with stock 205 width or go with 225.

What are the Advantages VS Disadvantages of choosing a wider tire?

Thanks

makes lots of difference. if a tire is too wide for a given wheel, the sidewall will flex and the car could actually handle worse.

GXL wheels are 7" wide, right?

My 1987 brochure shows 205/60VR15 & 6JJ-15 for wheels. So thats 6" wheels for the GXL in '87. The turbo had 7"X16". Don't know if any of that changed for the S5.

Unless you get wider wheels 205 is better than 225 in the stock 6" wide S5 GXL wheels. More than 205 is too wide for the wheel. Look at tire specs on tirerack.com and they will list rim widths to go with the tire sizes. Usually the highest and lowest values are the extremes you'd want to have, and would be somewhat less than preferable.
