19X9.5" rims on FD with +37 offset on back?

Some help guys....!!! I've tried to pull up old threads on this subject, but the forum seems to have erased alot of them. Who is running 19" wheels on their FD and what off sets are you using? I need to know what width of rim and what size tires you are using with them. I was told by Volk that I can put a 19x9.5 with +37 offset and run a 275/30/19 tire in the rear without any problems...does anyone know if this is true? If you have any pics please post them as well. Oh it was also suggested by Volk to run a 19x8.5 with +39 offset with 235/35/19 for the front. I did tell them that my FD was lowered about 1" on all 4 corners and they stated that wouldn't be a problem. Any help would be great guys, and remember to post pics if you have any. Please no flames guys, just constructive suggestions and help. Thanks...Tony

When you say Volk, I assume you mean Mackin. If so don't trust them, check with ARD T2 for fittment. I have 18x9" ft and 18x10" rear and since Fiske changed their web sight I lost my offset chart . My referance for front spacing. Maybe some one running 18x8.5 and 18.9.5 can help here for offsets. Then go herehttp://robrobinette.com/tire_diameter.htm for tire diameter. You're ok on the rear but I think the front are to tall. BTW did you get the rest of the info I sent? Doesn't anyone want to help out a fellow RX7 owner???

I have 18x8.5 fronts with a 41 offset and 18x10 rears with a 47 offset and I have TONS of room. And the car is lowered with Koni shocks on the lowest spring seat level and H&R springs. Most people think it's too low.

Anyhow, my offsets are WAY too conservative; the wheels are too far in, which is another thing that most people notice about my car. I wish they were flush even with the outside of the fender.

In any case, since my wheels are a 47 offset but they are recommending a 37 offset, that means your wheel would stick out 10mm more than mine, which is almost a half an inch (25.4mm is one inch). But then you also have to account for your wheels being 9.5" wide instead of 10" wide like mine. So that half inch difference means a 1/4" off from the inside edge and a 1/4" off from the outside edge (you have to picture the center line of the wheel- when you lose a half an inch, you lose a 1/4" on each side).

Therefore, their 37 offset would stick the wheels out 10mm more but the narrower wheel would bring it back in 6.35mm. So... after it's all said and done, your wheels would stick out 3.65mm more than mine, which is only about 1/8th of an inch- not even noticable. So yes, it looks like they gave you good info on the rears.

Now for the fronts, mine are 8.5 wide and so are the ones you're looking at. So it makes it alot easier to comprehend. My offset is 41mm. They are recommending a 39mm offset. That's only 2mm difference. Remember that 1 inch is 25.4mm- so that is not even an 1/8th of an inch.

So whoever you talked to gave you exactly what the conservative Japanese companies recommend for the FD. The figures they recommend assume you want to tuck the wheel inside the fender and not have to roll the inner fender lip. Me personally, I like the more aggressive stance when the wheel lip is almost perfectly even with the outside edge of the fender.

This ought to answer your question buddy but if not, let me know and I'll help you out more.

-Tom

What tire size are you running Toms?? Just remember t do exactly what Tom mentioned and take into account the variance in possible section width of the tire as this varies brand to brand. You'll need to divide that deviation by two and add that figure to what you got from Tom to see how much room there maybe.

I know that we did a 18,10 with +37 and 265/35/18. This required serious rolling. I think it's close, pretty close with that tire size as it's taller and wider.

Later, Rishie

This is my exact setup right now except that I run 225/40/19 in the front. The rear tires are in alittle and not flush with the fenders but I like that look way better anyways. I have no clearance problems but I haven't even driven with them so I can't tell you for sure. BTW, I got these wheels from Volk with there offset they suggested

RedTT: We need some pics buddy. Do you have a digital camera or know someone who does? I'm sure everyone would like to see them.

I have Pirelli P-Zero Directionals, 235/40/18 in front and 265/35/18 rears. My car is pretty low (lower than in my website pics because the springs have settled in now) and I have no rubbing at all. But, they are definitely tucked inside the fender. If the offset was exactly even with the outside of the fender, then it does look like it would rub- or require serious fender lip rolling as you said.

My plan is to raise the car back up a bit (I have the Konis with the adjustable lower spring perch) and then buy wheels with an offset that will make the lip flush with the fender.

If that never happens, then I will at least buy 275 or 285 wide tires in back cuz the wheels are wider than the tires with my current 265's on 10" wide wheels; the wheel lip sticks out further than the tire does.

Take care,
-Tom

My car is far from being pretty. It's about 5 different colors from unpainted body kit parts. I'm waiting on my front which should be here next week. After that my friend is going to paint it. Then I'll post pics. If I post them now, you won't be impressed. I'm going to drop the car down (from jack stands) this weekend so I just might take some shots anyways. I guess we'll just have to see

I run 18x9.5" 45mm offset. In front they're spot on, slightly on the "close" side of things. In the rear, I could probably push the rim out 3-5mm EASY without rubbing. I do have my rears rolled. Not my fronts (damn body shop!). Nothing rubs. I run 265's all around.

You're a little vague here and I don't want to assume. Are you running 18x9.5 all the way around, in the front too?

Also, you said the fronts are "spot on". Can you take some pics from the rear of the car looking up the side so we can see how far in (or out) they are?

Thanks buddy,
Tom

Alright here are some pics of my buddies cars, both run 19's! Front is 235/35/19 and rear 265/30/19.

The harlequin colored car is not lowered at all but the other is lowered from memory 2.5inches!
