I run 17x10 ccw front and rear. NO spacers. 275/40-17 Hoosiers. Fenders are NOT rolled. I like the set up. Tires are more affordable.

What suspension are you running with?

Incidentally, what tires (for track) are you guys putting on the 18x10s. For longevity and price I will exclude Hoosiers and Michelin Super Cups, so that leaves me with Kumho, Toyo and Yokos. Toyo RA1s and Yoko A032 don't come in 285s and kumho only makes a 285-18 for there Ecsta line not their V700 Victoracers.

So what's left? How much would I expect to pay per tire?

Seems there are more tires at the 275-17x10 size. Although height setup in the front does seem like a good problem to avoid ,especially given that I will probabaly only run 500 lbs springs up front this season.

Your assessment is correct, not nearly as many choices for the 18 x10's. From what I see, Hoosier, Michelin, and Kumho are the only choices, but there may be others. Track tire and longevitity are relative, but you are right that the Hoosiers and Michelins are both expensive and don't last very long. The Kumho starts with more tread but shouldn't be used at full tread depth in the dry as it will overheat and "chunk". All of these are dedicated track tires, not to be used on the street. There may be other choices for street tires but I haven't looked.

BTW, you may be okay with the 17x10's if you're careful with ride height adjustment. I don't believe it will interfere with the stock toe link.

Stock style springs and shocks (not 2.5-inch outer diameter coil springs?)

Mark, are 2.5-inch coil spring absolutely needed for 10 wide by 17 for fronts if using 255/40-17?

From my understanding that's true, but I could be wrong. I didn't question John at CCW on that setup specifically because I already have 2.5 inch springs and was more interested in the 275/17 or 285/18 setup.

Hoosiers have a shorter sidewall than street tires, which the thread starter will be using.

I presume you're referring to the thread-starter running on street tires, and not Hoosiers?

Sorry guys, forgot to mention (as Sleep already typed), You will need coilovers to run 17x10 all around. I run Koni/GC 2.5 inch. 650/500.

Yes. Sometimes I'm not too clear when posting quickly while at work...

Thanks again for all the info guys. I've still got some time before I order the wheels and tires so I'm going to keep soaking up as much info as I can, but this will also help in choosing my suspension.

Hi Nic,

FWIW (and this is re-hash a little), 17x10 on street tires is gonna be really tight up there (I think). I'm having a few mild rubbing problems just running 17x9.5 CCWs up front. 255/40/17. Coilovers.

The experts could tell you more here, but that's just my experience.

Also, the staggered setup hasn't really had too much of a negative impact on my handling. This is my opinion, of course. I'm running 17x10 in the rear with 275/40/17 rubber.

When do you get the rubbing? What conditions? I'm considering this setup except in Forgeline RS3s http://www.forgeline.com/wheels/rs3.html

Manny,

It only happens when I'm at full turn on the wheel. Parking lots, basically. Pretty bad on the wheel though. I'm catching the inside of the rim on the front of the control arm.

I went to get it realigned (amazingly the car was in perfect alignment after at least three years - maybe more - since the previous owner), and they made a few small adjustments that lessened the problem, but didn't eliminate it.

It may not happen with everyone, and (though I don't know the geometry of it) it may be due to the lowering of the car.

Is your offset 2-inches for the 9.5 x 17? Might be worth moving the wheels a bit outboard a few mm with spacers, if this is too much of a problem?
