Hello there,

I want to change my current wheels, 8x17 (f-r), but I cant decide what sizes should I go for..My options are:

1.) 8x17 (f) and 9-10x17 (r) or

2.) a combination of 7.5x17(f) and 9x18(r)...


Any suggestions??

IMO, don't use anything less than 8" wide. The stock FD rims are 16x8, so you don't want to downgrade.

 

the better overall setup would be the 17x8 and 17x9-10. you really dont want to put a 7.5 inch wide wheel in the front...

 

There's nothing wrong with 17's (f) and 18's (r) . . . . i belive the last year corvettes did this. One guy on the forum did 17x9+43(f) and 18x9.5+45(r). I don't remember the tire sizes.

But if you want a good set up go for something like 17x9.5+45 all around or 17x9+40. You move up in the offsets but not down. Stock offset is +50. Plus if you use the same tire size all around you can rotate the tires which is a good idea too.

 

There is if the 17 is a 7.5" wide rim!

 

Can't answer your question without knowing offsets, since it seems like you are looking at specific wheels...

Why go down in rim width? 5zigens or some Enkeis have awesome offsets for cars 17x9.

Unfortunately, I cant find the wheel I want in 8x17 and the only available size is 7.5x17.
In Greece the wheel prices are way to high!!!
So I'll try to find another wheel style in 8x17 and 9-9.5x18
Otherwise I am going to 17s, 8 or 9-10x17.
In my FC3C I am using 18s front and rear, and I am not so happy with the size in front..sometimes I think that I have no tires at all...and this is that made me think of the 17s and 18s pattern..

That site doesn't even list offsets, which are CRUCIAL to wheel fitment.

 

I know that offsets are crucial but I believe that if I tell them that I need the wheels for an FD3S they would give me the correct offset....or am I toooo optimistic??
So if the width is 8", 9'' or 10'',what are the best offsets?

rynberg I like these wheels for the concave look..the 9x18 have a 82mm polished lip, if I remember correctly.

 

Yes you are.

The stock offset is +50. The closer you get to stock, the safer you are. That doesn't mean you can't run lower offsets, it just means you'll run into other issues. Safe, no hassle offsets would be +45 to +50. Depending on your suspension setup, lower offsets can be made to work.

 

I used to have Tein Flex coilovers with EDFC but now I am using HB coilovers, the DT2 series

 

Then you could probably go with a more aggressive offset provided you have your fenders rolled.

 

I found out that Azev wheels, www.azev.de, especially type M is available in 8x17 and 10x17.
Also, another option is OZ superleggera III forged in 8x17 and 11x18...huh???? and Keskin type KT4 is available in 8x17 and 11x18...
Mahjik what do you mean by aggressive offset? Also, do you agree with 11'' wide in the back? What offset should I be looking for?

I think you are going to have issues with 11" in the rear with stock trailing arms. If you have fender flares, you could push the wheel out more for better clearance. IMO, I wouldn't go wider then 10" in the rear without some fender flaring or pulling.

I would also suggest not going more than 2 tire sizes difference from front and rear (i.e. if you run a 255 in the rear, run a 235 in the front). If the difference is a lot, you'll increase understeer in the car. The 17x8 and 17x10 would probably work well depending on the available offsets.

 

tomorrow I am going to have some replies about the wheels mention above.
Also, I'll try to find out the offsets for these wheels and I would be looking for 10'' wide and not 11.
I do appreciate the help cos here nobody told me the problems I am going to have in the rear.

SORRY for the long delay but my local tire dealer is driving me crazy...
So, the final info is the following..
1. the OZ ultraleggera wheels in 8x17 and 9x18 f-r or
2. the RS-5 wheel in 7.5x17 and 9x18 f-r or
3. the RS-10 wheel in 7x17 and 9x18

The 1st option is better but I like the concave look in the 2nd and 3rd wheel option..

What shall I do?

Everyone here is going to tell you not to put anything less than an 8" wide rim on the car. So you know what they would recommend out of those choices. It's up to you, as it's your car.

 

Yeah, vettes are 17x9.5 fronts and 18x11.5 rears (for the Z06 model, from 2001-2005) The 2006 Z06 is an 18x10.5 and 19x12 I believe.

 

Why not run 18x9 all around?

 

I believe that with 9x18 all around the car is going to be/look a bit high...
At the moment I am using 8x16 all around and with coilovers it's very very low...so I want to keep that look..
2 of the options were 7 or 7.5'' cos here the local tire dealers can not find easily 8'' wheels in 114.3..

 

Also, I am more interested in performance than look...

 

There is no difference in tire diameter between 16 and 18" wheels with the correct tire choices, that's the whole point of "plus sizing".

If you are more interested in performance, then why are you looking at 7-7.5" wide wheels that are skinnier than stock?

 

While we are on the subject of performance... are there any problems performance wise 17s F and 18s R on an rx7(fd or fc)? To me it seems like the car would want to understeer. Am I correct?
