17" BBS RGR +55 Offset?

I was wondering if anyone had experience with the BBS RGR 17x8.5" with the +55 offset. Mainly, will I have any issues with it on the car and will it fit at all? Secondly, will I have any issues with the brakes and such if I wanted to go up in size to a Stoptech kit or the like?

Thanks for any feedback! All I can find is feedback on the +37 offset for the same wheel.

Thanks
Robert

Figured out my first question

Sorry about the stupid question last night. Did not have excel on my computer at home to be able to check my fitments like I used to be able to. .

I am going with the 17x8.5 BBS RGR with a +55 offset as the +37 is no longer available. Correct me if I am wrong, but a 17mm spacer will bring it out to a +38 offset and have me pretty much spot on.

Are you getting a good deal on these or something?

you can run the spacer, but you're not going to have any lip to speak of. Fitment won't look great IMO.

I am going to be running the 17x9.5 +38 in the rear. I know that one I shouldn't have to worry about fitment there. From what Ive seen with the fronts though there isn't much difference lip wise between the 37 and 55. I guess they made the offset on the backside of the wheel? Or do you mean I will probably have that issue on front fitment?

By definition, offset is the position of the rim face in reference to the barrel of the wheel. If they 'made the offset on the backside of the wheel,' then the offset would be different (numerically higher).

All else being equal (and wheel style makes a difference) a higher offset yields less lip and sometimes less concavity. In general, it's not very desirable and usually doesn't look all that great.

Oh ok I've got you. I found a couple pictures of the exact wheel on s2000s. The wheel I'm going for in the front is a popular 17" rear wheel for them. It looks like it still maintains a little bit of lip. Or am I still completely missing the 8 ball on what you mean?

Thanks for your input,
Robert

I just figured out what you ment. While the lip on both wheels is the same, the 55 offset has more curve to the spokes to bring the center farther out, while the 37 is more of a flat face.

Putting S2K fitment wheels on an FD is a mistake IMO, they have smaller wheel wells and can't nearly fit the width and nice offsets that we can

Understood. The difference between the two wheels I am talking about is going to be the 37 offset is going to be more of a flat face. The 55 offset will have about (probably off by a bit basically solved for the angle of a triangle if 2 sides were 8.5" [the radius of a 17" wheel] and the third side was .71" [18mm converted to inches and rounding up]) 4.8 degrees of pitch outward (Away from the car) more than the 37 offset in the spokes of the wheel themselves.

I am working on trying to find some 37 offsets though. I am making it harder for myself because I really want 17" wheels. Haha.

Great News! I got the rear wheels in today and I was able to track down a pair of the +37 fronts. Apparently there were two still left with BBS in Georgia brand new. Only downside is one of the two has a little too much silver in it (defect during the finishing process when they first changed over to automated painting of their wheels.) Those are on their way and I am going to be getting with my paint guy to see if he has the ability to take a look at the finish and match the color as best he can.
