1000+/- FD Coilovers?

Need coilovers for my FD. Looking for adjustable height and dampening.

I do not race, drift or use for track. Just for leisure usage.

Looking for a solid feel and a comfortable ride (comfortable for a FD, I know its not a Camry).

I'm considering Stance, Cusco, really anything that is reputable. I know Ohlins are amazing but 2400 for Coilovers is a bit out of budget.

I'm thinking spring rate 12/12? Suggestions?

Oddly enough I just replaced the pillow ***** when I had all bushings changed (3months ago). Do any use these or all come with their own?

Thanks

Get up with PureRX7 and see if he can get you the OEM bathurst ones, i have them paired with Tein S springs and it rides incredibly well, better than a stock car. I have a well under 1g invested into the whole setup.

I've been very happy with my Fortune Autos.

Here's my review thread https://www.rx7club.com/suspension-w...eview-1040061/

You can choose your own spring rates and they are 24 way adjustable. They come at full soft, which is very comfortable for street driving. I've had them at mid way for a bit now, I'm going to add a few more clicks towards stiff to see how they feel.

+1 for konis and ground controls.

For your use 12k springs are crazy, way too stiff. Maybe go up to 8/6.

As another source, Rishie at AutoRnD seems to have a good rep, tho I've never used them.

12k isn't THAT stiff, lots of mis-information on this forum. I have had coilovers with spring rates ranging from 8k to 20k, up until about 14k the coilovers ride smooth on the street. Ohlins are known to be one of the best performing and smoothest coilovers on the street and they are 11k. Having used 16k+ coilovers I can say those were a bit rough for the streets and are more suited for a track orientated FD. A lot comes down to how you setup the coilover in terms of preload and dampening.

This coming from someone who has had 10+ different sets of coilovers on his FD.

It was the "I do not race, drift or use for track. Just for leisure usage." portion that spawned my comments about spring rates.

And agreed, the 11k spring rates with the Ohlins work just fine on the street (insert smile here - I also autocross)- but you are paying well to get some great shocks to go with the springs, which probably aren't available at the $1k level (at least for new parts).

real1st: the experiences of purerx7, mahjik, and others are great. I've only had 3 different combos on my car, and each time I spent more I liked it better!

comfort is all about the shocks. top quality shocks can make stiff springs comfy. middle of the road shocks can't.

Konis and Ground Controls work great. I liked them with softer spring rates - 450/350.

i'll third the shock = ride comfort thing.

we have 3 FC's running around. 1 is stock, 2 is the AGX with 350/250 springs and the 3rd is koni with 400/250?

the car with the koni's rides the best, by a small margin.

secondly, 12K = 671lbs/in, which actually is only 100lbs/in more than the 550/500? M2 setup from the 90's, so its not the quantum leap it appears to be, its just that 12K is double digits, so it LOOKS really high.

EDIT: some back of the envelope calcs reveal that if you had a 2750lbs FD, with 50/50 weight distribution, and a natural frequency of 2.2F and 2.5R (race car territory), you'd want 17k front and 16k rear springs.

i should add to my post, the FD has good suspension geometry, so going softer on the spring rate doesn't penalize you in the handling department much if at all.

if i did one i'd run 450/400, or maybe 400/350 on the street, add koni's like the GC setup, and its really nice
