05-09 Mustang 17" wheels

Just wondering how well the 05 and up mustang wheels fit the FC platform. I found a great deal on a set off craigslist and want to pick them up tonight

I know the stock turbo wheels are 16 x 7 with a +40. The mustang wheels are
17x 8 with a +45 offset.

That means that the mustang wheels will stick inward from the hub close to .750" or 19mm more than the stock turbo wheels. Will this clear the stock suspension do you think?

The wheel will also project outward from the hub about 11/32" more than the stock wheels which I know isnt a problem, just wondering on the fit near the suspension.

I have a 88 GTU model.

Any help is appreciated. If I can get away with some 5mm spacers all the way around that would be fine too.

They hit the struts in front. You will need spacers, I think 10 mm+

Use 94-04 17X8 +30 mustang wheels instead.

Thanks for the feedback. I would have like to find a set of those but havent had much luck for my price range.

I found this set of 05 wheels whith nearly brand new tires locally for only $125, so its worth it even if I have to spend $20 on a couple 10mm spacers for the front and $15 for the Camaro studs and open lug nuts.

After a bit more searching I finally found what I was looking for. This guy has the same set of wheels on his 88 Vert and apparently they do fit but he was havving a rubbing issue with the tires hitting the strut. I think a $5.00 5mm spacer would solve that problem so it looks like they should work.

in order to run ANY mustang wheel, you will need longer studs. longer studs mean you need new rear wheel bearings, as you must destroy them to remove the old studs.

keep your eye out for 94-04 wheels, and keep saving (to up your budget). it really is worth it to hold out for a proper fitting wheel.

Not sure I agree with that blanket statement. It may be needed on some, but not all.

I have 17X9 in Cobra Rs on my car with gorilla spline drive lugs, and I have plenty of stud length with the stock studs.

Be aware, you MAY need longer wheelstuds for that combination.

Update:

I bought the wheels last night and installed the rears and they fit with no issues.

The front would not clear the stock strut/spring. Its pretty close, I think a 5/16" (7.9mm) spacer will make it clear but it does look like itll be close as to whether I need to get the camaro studs or not. Even if I do its no biggie they are only $1.19 per stud from the local Murray's/Oreilly's store.

I need to get in their and replace the drivers wheel bearing and throw on some new front pads so itll be a nice weekend job. Thanks for the help guys.

Quick question on installing/removing the wheel studs for you guys that have done it.

Any special tricks to getting the old ones out?

Should I just take an old lug and thread it on then take my dead blow and just pound them out right?

When getting the new ones in is it the same thing just hammer them in from the back right like this?

http://autorepair.about.com/od/fixit..._stud_repl.htm

I know it sounds dumb because it seems so easy but just want to make sure, lol. Thanks

You don't want to pound the new studs in. Get some open ended lug nuts and use those on the new studs to draw them in tight against the hub. This technique is in the link you posted.
