safc2 ground question

cant find any info on this topic anywhere. maybe you guys can help me out.

what is the reason behind having the grounds 1cm apart..?

and if its not done. will it hurt anything?

I had mine about 1 or 2 inch apart I dont know why they want it like that but it must be for a reason
