If you are going for very simple bolt on mods and not going for top hp, then the SAFC and SAFC II are good, ableit limited piggyback fuel controllers.

If you are going for high power, the SAFC simply doesnt cut it. Its tuning capabilities are very limited...

had? ran? did you blow it? if so running great came at a cost. you know that whole thing about cars running the best right before they blow because something is leaning them out and so on.

umm...maybe I'm wrong. But the best way to tune an SAFC is usually by an EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) gauge rather than an A/F gauge as far as I know.

I suppose a wide-band AF is better than a normal one, but on the Subaru's, we only tune via EGT as it's always been the most accurate way to see lean/rich conditions.

Well. The only thing about an EGT is, you can have the probe in different places and it can be a totally different temperature. A Wide Band O2 is what dyno machines have on them that tells precise A/F mixture, reguardless of the temperature of the exhaust coming out. In reality, the should be used in conjunction with each other, but I'd trust a WB before and EGT.

good point, they are best off used in conjunction with each other.

As for placement of the EGT, so long as it's in the header, it should all be the same...or so I thought...

Drove it for more than a year after dynoing then sold the car. Never had problems with that set up and tunning. Took it to road corse many times.
