The people that ordered parts from him, that sent him their hard earned money are the ones to be blamed here for trusting him.

Not to pick a battle with you on the subject, but:
Why would all this different people lie???
What do they have to gain???

I read all the posts and it wasn't only one person with the same complaint, it was more than a hand full.

Never buy from Forum members, never buy used parts, use a Credit Card and buy from big/well known companies and not fly by night operations.

Your two cents aren't worth even that......I've only had ONE problem in financial dealings with Forum members on this site. If you follow BATMAN's rules, you're generally going to be OK buying stuff from other Forum members. I especially recommend Midwest 7s in any parts hunt you might have for the 1stgen FB cars. If he doesn't have it, he can find it and he is a quick shipper, to boot.

To stay on topic...once Eric left texas, the whole thing fell apart. Essentially, the DFW Drunks were centered around Scalliwag and Eric.

 

aRight.. so back on topic, what about those DFW people, do they really exist or is it a myth.

I've even noticed on the 8 forum things have thinned in the group.

 

Lets face reality for a minute here, I love my car and will keep for ever, BUT:

The Rotary engine is a dying breed.
The facts speak for themself.
The RX7 sales were a big flop, blame the economy, baby boomers, high price(I call BS on this one, how about other high priced sports cars), not shade tree mechanic friendly and expensive to keep.
Now throw into the mix, reliability issues, expensive and hard to get parts and not many competent mechanics to fix/tune and you have the formula for disaster.

The RX8...., well the apple does not fall far from the tree.
Oil thirsty engine, bad rotor brakes, odd design, lack of real power and you have again a bad situation. It has fail to attract the publics attention, even when doing well on the XYZ Class that it races on.

Proof of the above is Rotary Performance is getting out of the business of fixing car and will only sell parts soon.
The market for the rotary is not growing or expanding, it is shrinking as far as I see it.
There are now modern car making more HP in stock form, that don't over heat and Billy Bob on the corner can fix with a computer.

I still will take the head aches and expense over any other car, just for the looks.

So back to the topic, I believe that I just mentioned most reasons why you see less and less and less people at meets.

I know Stock 7 has been growing more and more every year, but it has become a marketing deal for Mazda.
Even then, I don't see the sales for RX8 going through the roof.
Also Stock 7 is a venue for partying and an oportunity for vendors, so it has become another shown that people like to attend.
I'm done, now discuss among yourself.

 

How many RX8s has mazda sold? I am pretty sure it has been a sales success....

 

I forgot to mention the marketing fiasco with the HP rating of the RX8, that didn't help with the sales.
Not even the X-men could help sell this car.

Revisiting the reliability issue, for every monthly meeting, just count how many people missed the meet due to car problems.

 

So back to the topic, I believe that I just mentioned most reasons why you see less and less and less people at meets.


But the topic is literally, "What happened to the DFW group?", not what happened to the DFW meets held each month and certainly not what happened to rotary sales in the DFW area. All the rotary doomspeak was totally left field, maihn......the meets are still held and attract pretty much the same folks and same 'crowds' over and over....the DFW group that used to fill the South RX-7 Forum and then the South Lounge has pretty much gone their own ways as jobs and situations changed. Eric, Mike and Clint were the core. Their exploits made this corner of the Forum an interesting read every week for a long, long while.

 

you guys just need to come up with something to talk about, maybe its time for another party or a hooters meet, after all MNF is back.

as for the Rx8 debate, when you look at the class of cars its in, and the target buyer group, its just not that impressive in a "street sense." the Rx8, S2000, 350Z, and GTO all target single educated men aged 25-35. these people are going to use their car as a daily driver, to pick up chicks, and haul ***!! while the Rx8 puts down decent numbers on the track (cornering and braking) it misses those characteristics important to is target demographic. its the slowest of the group, and not very masculine (though the GTO is a bit more fem). I guess what I am trying to say is the Rx8 suffers from the NSX syndrome, though on a much cheaper scale.

It's still back to the same principle/issue I mentioned.
The RX7 is slowly dying and the DFW crowd is a perfect example of what I explained before, it's all connected, like it or not.
People grow and move on, the common denominator or tying of the crowd was the interest of a mark that no longer is interesting.

 

Regarding moving, it would seem so. Once they moved, they lost their internet connection long enough to break the "addiction" of posting in this corner of Ryan's website. Once they got the connections back...well, just how committed are you to making City Streets during the week when you now live in Mexico Thus the interactions and the threads die off, completely unconnected to the fate or happenings regarding the beloved RX-7s or RX-8s.

The City Street threads, the very threads that became the entertaining "dailies" of the DFW Drunks, were not about rotary anything. Your 'point' is thus invalidated and still off the mark regarding the topic of this thread. Perhaps a new thread for your point is in order for it is most definitely NOT the answer to this thread...

I do believe you meant to have "are" after "Streets", "meetings" and no, my RX-7 is right out there in the parking lot. I can see it from here. What does all of this have to do with the topic of the thread again? Can you stay focused, here?

 

the city streets meets were the best ever. just because it was not a parking lot meet does not mean it had nothing to do with rotaries, we talked about them, bought and sold parts, it had alot more to do with rotaries then the people who never went think.

My fiance' Colleen and I just bought a house in Carrollton and this Saturday (Oct 28th) is the official housewarming party. (Colleen is Eric's sister, BTW) There will be a keg 'o Bud Light and a smoker & BBQ to heat all your meaty needs.

Eric and his new(ish) wife will be in town and Thorage will be there as well. I sent messages to Crash, Cavell, and Clint as well, though I haven't heard solid answers.

Feel free to stop by anytime. I figure the party will probably get going about 6PM or so, but the keg will be there earlier if you're thirsty.
