What can I expect? --after Ike--

Both my 84 and 83 rx-7's got flooded from hurricane Ike. I live right near the coast, in San Leon. What will be good on the car? What won't? I have drained the oil, and the gas tank. pulled the plugs and put oil in, pulled the carpet out, .... but is the dash or any of the wiring or electrical components good anymore? I have been spraying everything down with wd-40. Both were good running cars... I just don't know what to do..keep them.. scrap them? HELP . You can see some pictures on Myspace...http://www.myspace.com/onefastrx712a

Man that ******* sucks. Mother nature sure can be a bitch.

I wouldn't count on those at all, considering salt water is really ******* bad. All of the connectors are probably going to rust. I say scrap them. :/

Mate not to be an *** or anything, but u could have moved the cars before ike came. All it would have taken was to move them somewhere abit higher. Taken them for a drive somewhere else, or something. It's just stupid(pardon my english) to leave them where they can be flooded. U can't blame anyone but your self tbh.

With one simpel ting u could have prevented this. But to bad u did let it happen mate.

If u where far away when it happend then there is not much u could have done. Except gotten freinds or family to move them.

Yeesh, thats bad news dog....just sucks. Being soaked in water is all kinds of bad for a car, in many many ways. Part out what you can, sell the shells and try to make enough to go back out and buy 1 good one....would be much less a hassle than trying to bring them back to life. But then again i dont know the extent of the damage, but from the way it sounds, pretty bad.

Well thats like adding salt to a wound...Thanks... If you really must know, the only family I have live by the water and they got damage there also...And the few friends I have live around me. My wife can't drive a standard and I was towing a boat (which she can't do either) so I couldn't drive one much less two (one of which didn't have the legal tags I needed). My wife and 6 year old son where my first priority.

jones75240 -- I drained the oil on both cars and the gray one (daily driver) had water pour out...the red one didn't have any!! so maybe the motor(s) I should keep?

sorry to pour salt to your wound but i do understand ur prioritizing. Im not trying to be an ***. But had it been me, i would have gotten the cars out of the way days ahead of then the huricane hit. U probably knew it would hit a week ahead, wich would have given u time to get a dolly and tow both cars away to a safe high ground untill the storm passed.

But it sucks bad ***. And im guessing ul need to change out the entire harness or be prepeard to do so. I would also rebuild the engines and clean them out to get all the salt water and dirty water out of everything. There will be remenants of it inside the oil system if u had water in the oil. And not to mention inside the engine since it probably did go trough the intake and down into the engine.

Sorry about beeing an ***, when i was not trying to be one. But they could have been moved mate.
