Signed, but what if your car didn't come with one and doesn't even have a bracket for one? I live next to several DPS guys and they all like my car, but never said anything about it not haveing a front plate.

Anyone know if the law makers actually know about the petition, or are we just signing this for our own pleasure?

You need to license your car in another state (the further away the better). Then the police are never sure if its a 2 plate state or not. I have one plate on both my mazdas and have never been so much as looked sideways at.

I got a ticket for this in a rental car one time!!!! C'mon that's just going a little to far. I was even pumping gas at the time and not driving!!! Anyways I took it to court and won but it was still a hassle.

Code, is amended by adding Section 502.010 to read as follows:
Sec. 502.010. ISSUANCE AND DISPLAY OF LICENSE PLATE. (a)
Notwithstanding anything in this code to the contrary, including
Section 502.180, the department shall issue only one license plate
for attachment at the rear of the vehicle for which the plate is
issued.
(b) Notwithstanding anything in this code to the contrary,
including Section 502.404(a), a person is entitled to operate on a
public highway a vehicle that displays only one license plate if the
plate is attached at the rear of the vehicle. A person may operate
on a public highway a vehicle that displays two license plates if
both plates were assigned by the department for the registration
period as a set of plates.
(c) In any provision of this code that relates to the
issuance or display of "license plates," "plates," or a "set of
plates," the term means only one license plate.
SECTION 9.02. The change in law made by this article
regarding the issuance of license plates by the Texas Department of
Transportation applies only to the issuance of license plates by
the department for a registration period beginning on or after the
effective date of this article. For a registration period that
begins before the effective date of this article, the department

former law is continued in effect for that purpose.

Since this law was amended in 1995, shouldn't cars produced this date be protected by ex post facto? This is why cars created before certain emmisions laws where passed are allowed to keep operaiting. I think that this would grant immunity from this law on most RX7's. Just a thought.

it's a reasonable thought... but considering that you are not changing any of the actual running gear of the vehicle I don't think your proposal holds much weight.
FWIW - pre 1995 vehicles were still subject to this law. I think the amendment was regarding the fine not the actual law itself.

i got a ticket the other night because i had my license plate on my dash on the passenger side and not on my front bumper. what i dont get is that my brother has a firebird that doesnt have a front license plate and he's never been pulled over. he's got some kind of filler plastic thing with the firebird emblem on it
