Lightbulb RX-Club of Houston Monthly Meeting - July 10th @ Gabby's BBQ and more...

Greetings all,

July brings us back to the Northside, for another excellent meet. The northside always delivers so lets see some great freinds and some fun rides at this meeting.

As always all Mazda and rotary powered rides are welcome at our meetings as well as the random non-Mazda too, just don't roll in 20 deep with another club or crew. Thx.

Location: 3101 N. Shepherd -- Houston, Texas 77018
Time: Parking Lot @ 6-ish -- Dinner @ 7:30

P.S. - I will ensure with Gabby's there will be no shenanigans this month with the parking lot. We were assured at the last meeting, but I'll be sure to make extra sure, just in case.

...but wait there's more?

Yes, watch for details about the 7/7 Meet to be posted very soon.

Short story version:
  • Gabby's gets to use an adjacent parking lot for customers, but it belongs to a church across the street.
  • As long as we are Gabby's customers, Gabby's says we are cool
  • Guy from church sees cars with popped hoods, proceeds to confront members directly.
  • Leaves parking lot in a huff, to tattle to Gabby's management.
  • Gabby's management listens to his rant (with me standing unbeknownst just behind him)
  • RX-Club wins! Gabby's apologizes. End of story.

Kyle will not be there.

So the church goer does not practice what he proclaims to believe in.

Ha. I, however, worship at the church of BBQ and plan to fully practice what I preach at this meet.

Rain is OK, but stupid common drivers are the problem.

jott = Jonathan Ott...it was my computer login from long ago, and then became a nickname at work as a result.

Weather permitting, Chuck and I will be there. I won't have my FD though, engine let go due to not having an airpump (Banzai's and previous owner's fault), and the belt being overtightened (mostly previous owner's fault). All four bearings need to be replaced, and the front stat gear bearing left what looks like an ant-hill-sized mound of copper in my oil pan.

I'ev got an idler pulley just sitting in my garage... makes me really want to install.

You've got 3 choices then:

1.) Leave it off and don't over-tighten your belt. Risk losing contact with water-pump pulley at higher RPM, causing reduced cooling efficiency.

2.) Leave it off and way over tighten your belt for the next, oh, 5k miles or so. End up with the same results I had.

3.) Put it on and have both belt contact at high RPM, and proper belt tension (and angle of action of force on the main pulley).

I'm not calling you out specifically - you already have the idler pulley, just haven't installed it. But in general, if you choose 1 or 2 without resorting to Gilmer drive belts or something... Then you're a complete idiot. Or blissfully ignorant.

Install that idler ASAP! Sheesh, how long can it take, 20 minutes? Ok, plus heading to the nearest parts store to get the proper size belt... maybe 45 minutes if you are slow about it? It's worth spending your time installing it in order to prevent catastrophic bearing failure.

If you show up to the meet without it on... the consequences will never be the same.

If you are gonna ditch the air pump, get the pineapple pulley and be done with it. THAT belt works great!

My accessory belt however has been my nemesis for years. It squeaks its *** off.
