Any one caravaning through/from the Austin area, let me know. I want to get the group together before striking north. I'm still sweet talking some of the SPEC guys to come. I'll let ya'll know what I dig up. I'm also going to push the issue a bit more at our meeting tonight.

I made a thread about it in the events section on OK-Speed, one of Oklahoma's car enthusiast forums. Hope that helps.

Sweet!!! The RX2 would win Vintage Rotary -- we've got an RX4 currently registered too!

Thanks for posting! Every little bit helps!!

Attendee update: We've got 98 enthusiasts and 57 rotaries registered!!

Don't forget to visit www.myrotarycar.com/bbq and print off some flyers. Keep them in your car and tag other rotaries when you see them. Help us spread the word!!!

Sounds cool, but Sept 24th is the second day of the Austin City Limits music festival...gotta go to that, so I guess the Mound won't be winning Best of Show 1st Gen!

Right on.

If you still want to show you could enter the Make a Wish foundation show that day at in Austin at Carraba's/Rudy's on 183, we'll be there as a club and it will probably end with time to go to the festival etc. (unless the fest is all day, nevermind then )

What time does this event start? The festival acts start playing about noon IIRC. I live near Zilker so it's probably wise that I don't leave my place in the morning because I might never find a spot once I leave.

right on.

that's a good point, but the festival line up changes every year and bands come and go, if you live in Austin music is always a first priority, I'm still bummed I never got to see SRV live so whenever people (bands) swing through town that I want to see I'm all over it. The BBQ is going to be awesome too but our club needs help and some positive local exposure so that's where my priority is

Right on....I love music as much as I love the Mound so it comes down to a matter of convenience...I can walk to the ACL festival from my spot in about 5 minutes....all of my nieghbors go, I have friends coming in from out of town, and September 24th is my birthday. It's going to be a huge party all weekend during ACL. I think I will have to skip the rotary BBQ, to my regret.

I am glad to see that someone is putting together another meet though. I put one together with the help of others back in 2001 and it was a smashing success. I know it will be a blast.

Right on.

I'm sad you guys can't make it.

The DFW 8 crew has worked really hard in making this a success and we've got some serious numbers of registered attendees (94 rotorheads, 57 rotary vehicles). People from as far away as El Paso are planning to attend. Personally, I'm a little hurt that ya'll can't make the 3 hour drive (which BTW I've made SEVERAL times in the past few months to see you guys) to join us in the festivities, especially considering you can go anywhere to see the band you're staying home for and we don't know if this type of thing will happen again, but whatever.

You don't have to tell me how hard it is to organize such an event...like I said I had an integral part in the first Sevens Across Texas rally back in 2001....we had over 50 cars as well, went for a leisurely lap around lake travis taking the twisties, and had free rudy's bbq for all, as well as sponsors and prizes. It was blast and I'm bummed to miss this one as well. But I've had these ACL plans for months - it's a three day festival with over 130 bands and since I live within a stone's throw of the park it's almost required that I go! All my neighbors (all good friends) are going, and several of us have birthdays on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th. It's a huge party right next to my apartment!

Trust me, it's not a 3 hour drive that's stopping me. I just drove out to LA in a Ford Bronco last week.

Right on.

Klar called and tried to coerce me into coming. There's a race in Hallett the weekend before, so if I'm up for driving to the north of Hell I'll show.

Once a little living and wisdom has gotten under their collective Austin belts, the peeps will come to realize music and bands are ephemeral "payoffs" compared to live people who share your passions one-on-one vs. just screaming from a mid-field chair at a band. I'm willing to bet most of the bands that do the festival each year also play the local Austin scene quite frequently.

If Pantera got back together, Darrell excepted God rest his soul, with Glaze as front man opening for Led Zeppelin and Metallica at the Nokia Theatre in GP, I'd still go to the BBQ first and then hit the concert later.....if someone gave me tickets......U2 or LOG? I'd stay at the BBQ.....

I'm not so sure I agree with the above statement but oh well. I have no problem making the drive, for the right person/people I'd drive to the ends of the earth and back. The problem is that the event falls on a weekend which has several other events happening simulataneously. I know of at least 3-4 different car shows, the ACL, some other random stuff etc. There's just too much going on so I have to choose between the fabulous event you guys are organzing, a concert which I've already decided to skip, and supporting our fledgling club. I apologize if you think I'm blowing you off but I'm not, I'm doing everything I can to help our club right now, a certain guy has tried to run our name through the mud and kill us off and I'm not letting it happen, if that means I have to miss out on the BBQ then that's the choice I have to make, it sucks but put yourself in my shoes and think about how your friends would feel if you bailed on them. Showing my car that Saturday with other members of the club will help us get our name out, will help show we're back and stronger/more legit than ever, and most importantly, it will show a certain a-hole that life goes on w/o him. Not to mention it helps my best friends brand new car audio business he's trying to get off the ground. That's where my focus has to be at this time until things get more solidified, and again I apologize for bumming you out. I have to say I was pretty bummed out heatwave weekend when I heard of everyone driving lime creek etc and nobody contacted me about it, no invite, no nothing. There was a brief moment where you said hi at the show, and I got to talk to Jenkins for a few minutes, but pretty much the entire weekend I never saw anyone nor got a hello or an invite to do something after the show etc. I was pretty bummed about that for a little bit, but then again as hectic as that weekend was maybe I wasn't real high on anyone's list anyway

The only problem I have with the way this thread is going is that we are not keeping it on subject.

I don't think we should be discussing other events in this thread. You should start another thread or use PMs to talk to somebody about a different event happening the same day. It's a little disrespectful to the organizer of this event. Thank you.

Once a little wisdom has gotten under the collective belts of Dallas and Arlington peeps, they will move to Austin. (runs, hides). I kid, I kid.....

Like I said I would love to go, but like canary8 said some of us already have previous engagements which we deem a priority. It's bad enough that I sometimes fall asleep reading the Haynes manual, but my friends would hate me if I ditched my own birthday for a rotary bbq during ACL festivities.

Right on.

Music can wait. Especially since I'm perty sure I'll be out of the country this time next year.

Hey Eric, is BDC coming? I shot him a PM as well and he never really gave me an answer.

Chris, other than the fact that your car is a full racecar, there should be no problem for you to make it.

I haven't been contacted for crap about the caravan. If ya'll don't want to let me know. I'm perty sure if Chris comes, he and I will come up together. Adrian, the black turbo 8, said he's interested.

My girl is coming with me. So, I'm not going to be sharing a room with anyone. Unless you like to wat... nm, NOT going to happen.

There are a couple others that stay in the main lounge that I still need to get ahold of.
