Open Road Course racing: 1/29/06 - Louisiana
Nowhere else will you be able to just pull up and race on a road course. All you need is a helmet!
Three cars are sent out at a time in 5 second intervals with 5 laps per session. Try to catch the car in front of you and don't get caught by the car behind you! The "chase" is extremely fun and can not be experienced with any other kind of racing... drag, autocross, or e-racing on XBOX. Passing is only allowed on the straight away.
This is NOT a competition, but more of a practice, "free for all" session for beginner to novice drivers. There are no class designations, so all kinds of make/model vehicles will be racing each other... from Ferraris racing with Civics, to Vipers with Scions. Be the next Honda to lap a Ferrari on the road course! It's happened before, lol.
EVENT INFO: Open ROAD COURSE grip lapping and/or drift practice sesssion.
Sunday, January 29th at No Problem Raceway (9am - 5pm). Gates open at 8:00 am, drivers meeting at 8:30.
Driver fee = $75 for UNLIMITED lapping sessions on the 1/2 mile road course. Driver spots are limited and they WILL sell out, so call now to preregister, 225-247-RACE (7223).
General information: HybridEntertainment78@yahoo.com or Phone: 225-335-6428
Track info and Road Course layout: www.NoProblemRaceway.com The road course is a half mile long with no obstructions to hit like walls or trees, only grass.

I don't agree with the lack of class designation at all... It seems totally irresponsible to put someone who has no clue at all on a track with someone who is actually fast around the track.
What do you think will happen when someone with no experience at all is being pressured by a regular who is up their *** the entire time? It's just a recipe for disaster, if you ask me.
The claim of "no obstructions to hit like walls or trees" is pretty far fetched, as well; considering that the dragstrip's retaining wall parallels the straightaway of the peanut at about 35 feet away.
For those of you who do not know the layout, here is the photo from NPR's website that I have edited for easier viewing. The very crude red line is a trace of the peanut which will be "raced" on. The crude black line in the retaining wall. Doesn't look like "just grass" to me. Also, if you notice, in order to make it onto the peanut's straight, you will notice that Turn 14's radius has to decrease drastically. What happens when you get someone who is inexperienced and without instruction flying into a decreasing radius turn? Either lots of understeer or lots of oversteer. And when there is a concrete wall less that 50 feet away, I think it would be wise to have some instructors on hand.
I'm not trying to rain on your parade or discourage people from going, track time is the absolute best way to learn how to handle a vehicle and it increases your everyday driving safety 100-fold. I cannot begin to tell you how many times my experience in a go-kart ~5 years ago has helped me in everyday driving. What I am trying to do is save Pat some money by not having someone die on his track because someone didn't think it was important enough to teach the new guys what to do.
And also, please, please, please tell me that the DoRiFtO **** are not going to be on the track at the same time as the people actually trying to race on the race track? That's just asking for a world of hurt.
Right now, I am praying that you will actually have instructors on hand, and I'm hoping that you have measured the importance of driver skill, and I really hope that you accidentally left that information out of your post; other wise, I will be praying that I don't hear about any of you guys on the news....

These events are always safe. I can go on and on with the safety precautions NPR takes at these events, but it's not necessary. All of that is addressed at the drivers meeting on the day of the event. If anyone has any questions or concerns, contact us. We've been doing these practice sessions since 2002 with thousands of laps and have never had an accident. Instructors are onsite and any dangerous drivers are immediately black flagged, even kicked out if too dangerous. Drivers are seperated between grip and drift. We've hosted events on other tracks around the country and NPR is by far the safest. There are no walls on the course like there are on the oval tracks we've done events at.
I invite all of you to come to one of these events. If anything, the drivers will be bitching because NPR can sometimes be too strict.

But I agree that there definitely should be classes for those who want to race. As clean said, there is a lot that can go wrong when someone unexperienced is under pressure to be passed, or just isn't use to paying attention.

Ok then. Give me your reason why drifting is not a sport and isn't on the same level as other racing sports? And why are there professionals in Japan as well as huge events? I am curious about this. I personally like AutoX and drifting but I believe the people who think drifting is just spinning tires share your views and don't fully understand what it is.

I used to think drifting was pretty silly too, until I attending a Formula D event with professional drivers. My jaw literally dropped when I arrived.
Attend a professional event and your opinion on drifting will change, guaranteed. It's definitely more that some kids in beat up 240's doing donuts at 30 mph. The pros are going down a course side by side inches away from each other at 80+ mph, SIDEWAYS.

Hey, I never once argued whether or not drifting was a sport in this thread. I said we don't need the drift patrol coming in here and telling everybody how great it is and to "stap h8in', f'real".
Besides, I know drifting is a sport. And just like Figure Skating or synchronized butt-humping I don't give a flying rats *********.

You guys keep talking about "how if I go to a professional event" my opinion will change. Quite possibly, but how many of these professional drivers live in southern Louisiana?
Face it, it will be a bunch of kids in beat up 240s doing donuts at 30mph.
Please, by all means, go out there and drift your hearts out, but don't confuse yourself with a "Japanese professional who can drift inches away from an opponent." It's a good way to wind up in a wall if you think like that.
Does drifting take talent? Of course. Is everyone into drifting talented? **** no. In fact, the vast majority of the "DoRiFtO crews" have no talent at all; which is why I pray to God that they aren't on the track with anything other than their own kind.
It makes me happy that you guys are going to have teachers, though. That's one good thing. And, yes, I will agree that NPR is usually pretty good about their safety; but I have seen a lot of things out there that just blow my mind with how dangerous, yet totally accepted, they are. These are typically at small events, though, with trained professionals on the track.

I'll most likely be at the Gun and Knife show at the Ponchatrain Center. Although, I never had intentions of going to this event in the first place...
