Talking

Bob, you went from bad to worse.

RX7 + GT-R = NO Mo'MONEY in the bank.

Have you checked how much are rotors and pads for the GTR?????
Call the dealer for a $$$$$hocking revelation.
If I were you, I wouldn't drive it, just give it to me and I'll do it for you.

Sick!!! Car looks evil as hell. Loved that car since its inception. Reminds me of the ole' muscle cars rolling around with huge displacment engines (they mean BUSINESS!), but with a japanese flair.... love it Good on ya for keeping the FD

HA!

thanks all I think...

anyways...Robert, most of the tranny issue seem to be from people drag launching it. If you goto nagtroc.org it doesn't seem many are posting about it...so either they are scared and not doing it as much or it isn't as prevalent (think the former). But it does look like the tranny is weak for dragging especially now that people are doing it with slicks and chipped GTR's. It seems like the same problem we talk about with wheel hop breaking things....most of the aftermarket talk is about new gears and things to prevent wheel hop.
The good thing is, I have never been much of a drag guy...like the track or autox.

Rich, I'll get a pic of the two together soon!

and yea...it's going to be a money pit.

Huy, it's a vinyl wrap. It's two layers. One layer is the color, the second top layer is the matte layer. With that being said, you can pick ANY base color you want. The guy even said there is "metallic" looking vinyl. Then you add a gloss layer and you have a car that looks like factory paint. Add a satin layer to make it slightly dull or matte to dull it even more. Really endless what you can do. Once you get tired of it, you peel it off and your paint is still like new...just pick another wrap color.

After I heard all of this I had second thoughts about re-painting the 7. I just might get it wrapped and let the track beat up the vinyl and just redo it after it has taken to much abuse.

He also said he could add graphics or make the subtle "ghost" graphics in the vinyl...

Go for it Huy! I would like to see what you would do to your show car.

oh and about the tranny, it does seem to be an issue with Nissan as the 09 will be the only year with launch control. All the following years will have it removed.

What does it cost to do the vinyl wrap with the matte finish?

Very nice Bob... I'm supremely jealous!

I can't walk by these cars in a parking lot without feeling these insane pangs of jealous. My stomach literally twists itself up inside because I want one so badly!

how long is the vinyl supposed to hold up?

does it require professional removal?

any residue or damage to paint for extended periods of time?

do you know at what temperature the vinyl can become damage or warped?

did they do your door jambs?

how far did they wrap around the corners/under/behind/panels if at all?

sorry for all the questions but i was pretty interested in doing this in the future

sorry,

I had it done at Speedshield in McKinney by a guy named Trey Pappas.

Apparently he does the clear bra for Lamborghini of Dallas. Runs a small operation but seems to do good work and has a specialty in vinyl graphics. He said he did a viper in the flat black a couple months before he did mine. I got his name from a guy at the GT-R forum who had his whole car clear bra'd.

it was around 2.1k

cheaper than some paint jobs and totally reversible.

well bold probably not... financially irresponsible yes.

I justified it my mind as "paint protection" with the ability to reverse it and have pristine paint underneath.

He said the wrap should last around 7 years.

No damage to the paint. Just like a clear bra. If you had your car repainted just want to wait 30 days so if you have to remove the wrap it won't take the paint with it.

I think the vinyl is pretty resistant to temp. They use a heat gun to stretch and wrap it around the car.

They didn't do the door jambs....but they tucked the edges. When you look at it, you can't even tell. Even around the side mirrors where it wraps around...it looks stock. Like someone painted the car. If the weather ever lets up, I'll take some more pics.

He wrapped around everything he could and took apart some of the car to hide the seams. I think this would make it necessary for a pro to remove it so you don't have pieces "stuck" in the corners so to speak.

no prob with the questions. This was all new to me to. I kinda regret not changing my car color to something other than black!

I saw that RX-8 at the Toys for Tots Sprint meet in December. It was way too glossy for a flat black scheme IMO.
