Montego Blue at LA Motorcars

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting the 94 Montego Blue that's at LA Motorcars right now. I talked to Lance on the phone and he makes it sound like it's a great car. He did say he had to repaint part of it to get rid of a scratch, and I'm not sure I like the sound of that, but he made it sound like it was a small job. I've been reading other people's comments on LA Motorcars, and they really seem to be mixed reviews. Some people have a great experience, others not so great.

I pulled the Carfax on it and I'll post it in just a second. There are a few things that make me nervous about it, but I wanted to hear your opinions. First, the number of times a title was issued seems high. Second, there are records in and around Houston, then up in Kansas, then in and around Dallas. That makes me think 3 owners, which isn't a huge deal, but it's not as nice as only one or two owners. Third, I don't like to see that the car was bought, and then sold at auction 6 months later.

What do you guys think? Anyone know anything about this car?

Carfax will be in the next post. Thanks for any comments!

Thumbs down

I bought my FD from LA Motorcar's and I GOT SCREWED. He gave me a Carfax report saying that the car never had been in an accident. In my rush to get my dream car I didn't really take my time to check things out. My bad. After I took it home and I started to check it out closer I saw the replacement windshield, the overspray and various other details that indicated that the car was definetly hit hard. After six months the engine blew a coolant seal. No sweat because I had a 3 year insurance that he sold he when he sold me my FD. Totally useless. $1,800.00 down the drain. When I contacted good old Lance to see what he could do for me he basically said tough ****. I would never recommend this dealer to anyone, not even my worst enemy. I can blame myself for rushing into things. I know that used car dealers are not always honest but this guy is the worst. Check and double check because the odometer is probably incorrect. Mine had 37,000 miles on it but that was no where close to the truth. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE. HEY LANCE

I looked at FD's at La, then I flew 1300 miles to pick one up, no pain no gain.

Lance was checking it out at the track day we had at MSR a few years ago. For sure there is no nicer stock silver 94 touring in the metroplex.

I bought my car from Lance, recommend him and still stay in touch with him. Lance won't screw you.

What everyone has to remember is that you're buying a 13 year old used car that is known for being quite complex. There WILL be things wrong with it and if you think the dealer even knows everything wrong with the car I think you're in for a disappointment whenever buying a used car from anyone on earth.

These cars are getting old and they've all been through multiple owners. That should be expected. Cars this old with only one or two owners are the exception, not the rule.

What are you looking for from this thead??? You've brought up several reasons already of why you are uncomfortable with the car. If you're not comfortable don't buy the dang car! Sheesh.

Like you said, I'm not comfortable with it, so I don't think I'm going to buy it. What I was looking for was to see if someone would say, "That's my car, I sold it to Lance last month." Then I could ask more questions of that person .

Ah well, I'll keep looking. Thanks guys.

lol, yea I got lost on the way to RP.....actually I bought it from Fritz Flynn in Virginia. Flew in and had a nice road trip back.

Italianstallion, I don't go to TCU, you notice I said stock FD, there are some very nice highly modified ones that have been repainted, etc....mine is original.

Damon, good point about these cars. I had no problem with Lance, he just did'nt have what I was looking for and was very proud of what he had in stock. He was also offering the infamous warranty at the time. The warranty was really good for a lot of people and most likely worth it.

I got my FD from Lance. I probably overpaid a little bit, but I think it was worth it. My motor lasted AT LEAST 50k with me beating the cowboy **** out of it at 16psi on stock twins. I say "at least" becasue there was a claimed 4k mi on the motor at the time of purchase, but I'll never take ANY salesman's word on something like that, so no offense to Lance.

I really don't enjoy badmouthing anyone and I can only blame myself for not checking out the car better before I bought it. I was blinded by the light (FD) and I chalk it up as a learning experience. Lance is in business to make money just like any other businessman. My beef with Lance is that he sold me a warranty insurance for $1,800.00 that was totally useless. If he would have made a token effort to correct that when I contacted him I would have never posted in the first place. If he would have said something like sorry guy, how can I make it up it you instead of hanging up on me I would probably have some respect for him. So unfortunatley my experience with L.A. Motorcars was very negative and I will let people know that. By the way Damon, congrats on your daughter. They are a gift from heaven.
