A small spark while checking for a fuel leak can never end good. Luckily I had a fire extinguisher nearby. Took paint off the engine and crispied a few wires but nothing too bad.

Unfortunately the fire is the good news. The oil pan is full of coolant. An outer o-ring probably got pinched during assembly.

Engine has to come back out of the car and into the kitchen again.

I have officially been there, done that, and got the T-shirt.

Damn that sucks man, makes me feel a lil better that I'm not the only one with horrible luck with the 7 lately, thanks Scott.

It's soo bad because I know you were trying so hard to do everything properly and cleanly.... see how all that hard work pays off?
Just throw it together half assed or "Phil-Stye" next time. Having something fail after not really trying is better, and have it sorta run half assed is best :-)

^^^ Maybe

Know what though - I'm going to make it a point to phograph the disassembly as the problem is pinpointed.

I plan on posting up my findings and maybe I can save the next guy putting their engine together the same headache.

I really hope its just a pinched outer coolant seal and not a cracked iron or worse.

^^^ Know what really sucks about the leak? I had a coolant system pressure tester available (about 5 feet away from the engine on the kitchen counter) while the engine was being assembled and didn't use it!

**** it, I don't care if the engine has to come out 10 more times! (please don't let the engine come out 10 more times)

At least the Lemon loves me.

Indeed he has. I believe the videos are up on YouTube, though you have to be at least 18 years old to view them.

Soooo - finally I look at fixing the FD motor again.

I reassembled the irons and housings - minus rotors and e-shaft. I pressurized the system to 50 PSI (WAY more than recommended or the system will ever see).

24 hours later, the system is still holding 12 PSI. SO - however the coolant was getting into the oil will remain a mystery.

I am going to reassemble the engine again but I SWEAR that if it has to come out of the car again for any reason, I will destroy the FD on Youtube.

This I promise the FD Community: I will completely destroy my FD and video it on Youtube if the next build doesn't work. I'm not talking stripping it and smashing the shell... I'm talking complete destruction in its entirety.

Oh yeah - take a lookie below... when you wanna work on this one Chuck?

Please fill it up with water then put the pressure on it, I want to know where the leak is.

There is a leak if you lost pressure.

^^^ It still has 3 or 4 PSI right now.

I suspect its the hoses that I have plugging the rear water hose openings.

I'm gonna reassemble as-is.

Besides, I kinda want an excuse to SMASH the **** out of the FD. Get my tractor running already.

You got the RX-8! Grats dude! I'm still lovin' that color.

Edit: Oh, and if the FD gets tractor-ized then I got dibs on the exhaust. I think it just might survive! lol!
