I purchased a 87 RX7 non turbo about six weeks ago as a project for my son and I to work on. It had a bad motor so I purchased one from a RX7 guy in Atlanta that had about 35,000 miles on the rebuild. My son (Matt age 11) and I swapped the engine and now are looking for someone around New Orleans to check it out. The engine starts and the car can be driven but I am getting a knocking noise when I accelerate. It sounds like the knock you get when gas has to low of octane. Also when you accelerate it hesitates for a second. We live in Mandeville La, about 25 miles from New Orleans and have not been able to find a rotary mechanic. If anyone out there is or knows one please let me know. Our project is at a stand still untill the engine is running better. I don't want to do to much to the interior and body untill I know the engine is running right.
