Looking for a Master RX-7 Tuner...

...but for the Nikki-carbureted 1stgen!

I can get close but I don't have the time nor patience to deal with the shops that have the emissions sniffers necessary to tune the Nikki right. On top of that, this is actually a pursuit to find an old school tuner for these cars so I can steer my Dad towards them since I'm finding I can't work on his car in a time frame he wants. I don't want him to sell the car because of his frustration so I'm trying to find a competent shop that can tune the Nikki-headed 12A engine.

Can anyone help me?

you have all the different size jets to do this? I have a 5 gas analyzer on my dyno so tuning it to pass emission isn't a problem.

It's already smog exempt...the problem is the hard starts in the morning and generally just being a bit out of tune. You have to have the gas analyzer because the carb is tuned to CO mixture on the idle circuit, where the problem is. Power is not a problem for this car, so the cat and the carb circuits past the idle are doing something right...but the dyno idea is a good one. It's just the time factor again. I'm almost to the point of selling my yellow '84 at a big loss so I can pitch some money at the old man and buy the thing off of him.

Every cold morning it floods is another nail in the coffin for a car he used to love.

You should talk to Sam, the guy with the FD powered FB and "Slow7" tags. He tuned my holley and I haven't had an issue with it since, he may be able to help you with the Nikki. I forget the name of his shop but I'll PM you his number if you'd like.

EDIT. IIRC the name of the shop is A&B Auto.

Excellent...I had no idea Sam played with carburetors! And his shop, if it's still on West Division street, is very close to where my Parents live in the first place.

Many thanks! I'll PM him and get the process started.

Check out http://www.joserotary.com/. This is a link to Jose Zeda, who's considered pretty much a master rotary builder/tuner. You can find some info on his racing exploits throughout the net just by searching his name. He can make any gen rotary go as fast as you want. I imagine he can help you. His shop is in Haughton, LA, just east of Shreveport, down I-20. Good luck.

See, this is my Dad's car. He's not looking for a 12-sec, stock appearing RX-7 for a FAST event. He wants it to start each time he turns the key on a cold day. He's not going to drive to Ohio or Louisiana, he's going to sell the car first, before that happens.

First off-course guy, you're supposed to use the "Reading" threads in the New Member intro board to build up a post count. Now, I'm going to look at ALL of your posts to see if some need to be killed. OH? In the South Forum board? Say what?

Second off-course guy, thanks for the tip and a new link to explore even if I couldn't use it in this instance.
