Looking for good RX7 shop near AUSTIN

Next Saturday (3/18) I will be in Austin checking out a 94 that I am considering buying (in Killeen).

Are there any shops I can take it to get checked out by an RX7 expert? Or, maybe someone's garage? I can get the compression checked about anywhere but I would rather get a more full checkup.

Well I honestly would not recommend any shops in Austin to do work on RX7s. Protech and MZM are the only 2 real shops that work on RX7s but ive known too many people including myself that have had very bad experiences with them. They are good people but I would rather do things myself. Gotham Racing is one place I would take my car if I didnt do all my own work which is in the Dallas area. Hope this helps.

Well you've obviously never dealt with John at JCautospec, they do rotary work and are fantastic. www.jcautospec.com
I wouldn't call mzm a real shop either, I don't even know if they're still open or not. The jury is still out on protech, I've heard both good and horror stories about them, their RX8 is pretty sweet though. Can't go wrong with JC though, they do all or most of the work for our club, and we wouldn't even bother recommending someone or having them as a sponsor if they weren't legit

The answer is simple:

*There is one; John Long/JC Auto Specialist is the only one I would have work on my '89 convrt. See our web for details; he may do presale inspections as well.

If you want John's cell# to hook up with him on Sat, shoot me a PM.
I don't know if he wants it public.
He usually is at the shop on Saturdays, but its not "open" for public business.
