It's now 100% official... the car gods repudiate my RX7 ownership

RIP
1986 RX7 Sport
04/15/07 to 07/05/07

I hardly knew you.

I'll have pictures up later tonight or tomorrow morning.

A kindly lady decided to turn left from the middle lane of the three lane road. Unfortunately I was in the left lane going forward. What followed was a real life example of the laws of physics. I ended up hitting her driver side rear corner and spinning her up under the overpass and onto the small median. Luckily she did not hit any of the concrete pillars. I was lucky in the sense that I hit her almost dead center on my car. I'm going to call the RX7 totaled due to its age and minimal value and the amount of damage to the front I saw. I guess I'm also lucky that I didn't order $500 bucks worth of parts for it earlier in the week in order to start prepping the car for track days.

I'm fine although my back may be stiffening up a bit. However considering I was on the way to eat after working out at the gym I can't tell at the moment if it's from the accident or working out. The lady said she whacked her head pretty hard on something (I'd guess the B pillar) and didn't have any air bags deploy.

TL;DR
In the last of a long string of small comedy of errors the car gods have deemed I shall not own this RX7 and sent their agent of destruction, a kindly non immigrant lady in a Honda Accord with insurance, to reap the RX7 to the afterworld.

And just to let the parts vulture's know the interior was shot before the accident. There basically isn't anything worth scavenging in it. I drove the car off the scene and the motor still runs and the transmission works. Other than an intact hatch, working hatch struts, and the sport aero bits (yes that includes the aluminum undertray) I'm not sure there is anything of value on the car. If there is something your interested in speak up and I'll let everyone know once I find out the cars fate from the insurance company.

I'll probably start looking for another RX7 or 93 to 95 AWD Impreza. Those where to two project cars i was looking for before I found this seven. It just pisses me off because i was already looking for over a year before I found this seven.

Comedy Gold

Found this on the windshield of the RX7 which was parked in the parking lot behind my apartment complex after the accident.

For those of you asking about the aero pieces all I managed to get off the car is the aluminum under panel and that's only b/c it was sitting in the hatch at the time. Between the wet weather and other obligations over the weekend I was unable to get the aero pieces off the car before it was hauled away to the salvage yard.

Damn, I would have taken the motor at least. It could have held me over until I can afford a rebuild. Oh well.

w00t!

Damn I must have performed some selfless act in a past life or something. Just finished speaking with the insurance company regarding the settlement for the car. Basically it boils down to this. If I sign the title over to them they pay me $3,200. If I keep the car they pay me $2,950. Some other interesting numbers from the conversation. Their repair cost for the car was mid 7k and the car has a scrap value of $167.32.

Now I just need to start making some calls and determine if I have a place to store the car for a bit while I strip it and a place to store the parts I remove.

Considering that I only paid 1.5k for the car this whole incident has turned out for the best.
