i-40 road trip

I'm buying a car in TN and driving it back to CA -- is there anything I should know about the trip? Clear and dry all the way back? =)

Watch out for local cops in Arkansas - they like to entrap you by parking on the side of the road with their e-lights on, and write you up if you don't move to the left lane.

There isn't much between Amarillo and California. Watch for construction in Albuquerque. The speed limit drops in some strange places in New Mexico and Arizona, so keep an eye out for speed limit signs. Gas can get expensive in some of the smaller towns.

Thanks guys. Someone mentioned to me that there might be snow in the higher elevations -- is that something I need to worry about? (Never having driven in it, let alone even seeing snow)

I'll be bringing a Valentine One with me so I hope that helps. =)

Any particular stops I should take for some awesome grub?

Tell us about your new toy. If I remember correctly, the speed limit from Oklahoma City to the Arkansas border is 75 mph, which is nice.

I bought a 2009 RX-8 Grand Touring. Really hard to find in white, and without a moon roof.

Yep. Just 2009 I think. Moonroof is added with a premium package. That also adds Sirius.

If your headed back through Arkansas hit up an Iron Skillet really good food there. All Arkansas cops be it city, county, or state are butt monkeys so watch em. Unless heading through the mountains your probably still not see any snow.

Does i-40 go through any mountains?

Thanks for the tip about Arkansas. What city is Iron Skillet in?

You don't want to stop at an Iron Skillet. They produce truck stop dog food.

Yes, I-40 goes through mountains on the east side of Albuquerque and the area surrounding Flagstaff, AZ.

Iron Skillet is so named for the type of stomach you need to eat at one...

Memphis - Home of some great pork Bar-B-Que! (just ask for a nearby favorite)
Amarillo - The Texan Steak house! Home of the 72 oz steak! (free if you can eat it!) Not the best steak house, but still a must see.... and it's on I-40!
