Help finding a vac leak in Dallas?

Does anyone have a cool trick to find a vacuum leak? I have been swapping hoses and so far no luck. I heard you can blow propane on your hoses and listen to the rpm to find the leak. I don't really want to spend $50+ on a propane torch and can of propane to only use it once.

Does anyone have a propane torch and/or know any other tricks and might be available this Saturday? I'll bring beer...

I am in the north Dallas area.

Get a can of starter fluid or carb cleaner.

Works good and never had a problem - but you might want to keep your face away just in case.

Oh sweet. Thats a lot easier than propane!

My idle goes up and down between 400 and 1000 rpm rythmically. How much of a pickup would I expect? I would just keep spraying to maintain it right?

no, you just keep spraying till you find it, then you fix it.

Sorry, what I meant was as long as I am spraying, will it keep having a high idle? Not that it will magically fix it .

Since my idle goes up and down already, it would have to be a lasting effect (like 5+ seconds) for me to be sure that was it.

Do you have a turbo car? Heck this would even work on an NA car....

take off your filter... and then take your inlet duct or maf and go to home depot. Go to teh pvc plumbing section and find a rubber end cap that fits over the end of the opening.

Then take that home and punch a hole in the middle of it. Tighten it around your maf. Then take your air squirter from your air compressor and shoot maybe 20 psi into the intake. If you have a leak....your going to hear the hissing. Much much easier than spraying flamable gas around an engine bay.
