Gas is usually always cheaper here (in Houston) than most places in the US. So you will enjoy that.
I pulled these prices of www.gaspricewatch.com for comparison. I didn't look for the lowest or the highest, I just grabbed the first two I saw that had prices of Regular, Plus, Super and Diesel. (in that order)
Shell
2399 19th Ave
San Francisco, CA 94116-2416
$2.15 $2.25 $2.37 $2.55
vs.
Exxon
3140 Southwest Fwy
Houston, TX 77098-4508
$1.87 $1.97 $2.07 $1.93
I don't know exactly how much they will cost crossing the desert, but the last few times I have driven to Cali it is about 10 cents more across the board once your on the interstate and increases slightly as you move west. So with any luck the closer you get, the cheaper it will be.

fuggin diesel is way too expensive- I wish someone could tell me if it was the old supply vs. demand, or that gas companies are just fuggin greedy. diesel is some of the leftovers from making regular gas....
$2.45 is gonna make me cry when I fill up to take a car to Hallet this weekend.

Im at 2.18 today (Shell) but each day it goes up (.08 thurs) = (.04monday). I put .06 to .10 on a gallan after rack price and transport. Everything we pay is ******* taxes for your state or the Feds. We have refineries in ouir back yard and its more expensive then others places it gets shipped to.FYI

that'll make the gf happy.. as she despises her Echo....
granted I don't see your 12k anywhere.. the ones I see are "buy-it-now" closer to 5k...
They don't get that great of mileage anyway compared to even mid 90s civis and such... Too many safety thins these days makes everything weigh too frikken much.
Eitherway... the Suburban isn't seeing much road time these days.. 1mpg on a good day!

Actually it's been getting rave reviews from J.D. Powers and associates, and other people who have been doing long-term tests.
They say it's quite possibly the best Toyota made of all time, and that says a lot. They also say that it's the best value/dollar of any current car.
I can't stand the styling either. But you can't complain about a really good car that's gentle on gas and extremely reliable.
oh, it's not a bad car... it's just not fun or cool... It's amazing how practicle you can make a car when designing it with that goal...
But it usually gets about 36-38mpg.. That's not bad at all. but she got better gas mileage in her 95 Civic LX (38-44mpg) Both 5spd..
I just know that we used to ge 40mpg all day in an 85 626, and 40+ was easy with old CRXs.. you'd think that in 10-15 years they'd have been able to actually *increase* the gas mileage, no? It's really just holding about the same pace as all teh safety equpment they're required to add in...

eh, they were both slow as hell.....
eitherway.. both of those cars cost about as much as it does up upgrade a "normal" civic or an accord to a hybrid one...
It''s a novel ideal, but the economic case for a hybrid is tough right now..
To get a hybrid accord it's what, an extra $4000 I think? And you get an extra 10mpg tops (mostly city, but for this excesice I'll be generous) So say 25mpg and 35mpg
$2/gal * (miles) / 35mi/gal - $2/gal * (miles) / 25mi/gal = $4000
At that rate you'd have to drive the car for 175,000 miles just to break even on the cost of the hybrid! (assuming teh batteries lasted that long)

I actually got 536 miles out of my truck with the last tank ( including some towing), so i'm not feeling to bad about the mileage, but paying $75 to fill up is still killing me. How the hell am I supposed to be establishing my business when I can barely afford to transport the customer cars without charging them an arm and a leg...?

If I end up with this new job, I'd be willing to bet an Anniv Miata will show up at your door looking for some sort of forced induction.
Long live teh Valdez -er Jeep!

For demonstration purposes only...
the AE's have bottomed off at about $10-11k.. the remainder of the 99s are now dipping down to 9s or even 8s for teh higher mileage ones.. Although, that was a few month ago during winter... I'd bet prices will jump a thousand or two for the next few months during "convertable season"
here's some more local ones..

*edit - anotehr good way to score a deal on an AE is search CarMax invetory.. They don't know that teh AEs are supposed to be special. they've got one w/ 80k miles listed for $9,988, and another at $12 with 40k miles.

were the AE versions immune from the dreaded crank walk issue that plagued very early 99's? no one has ever been able to tell me....
