Buying another 85

It looks like I might be buying another first gen this weekend(I just can't seem to stay away from these things) but I have a question that you guys might be able to help me out with....

I have to tow it about 250 miles b/c the reg. and inspection are out over a year(with my luck I'd get pulled over like six times). Now my question is, if I rent a trailer(full car trailer not a car dolly) do you think my girlfriends 2000 chevy blazer will be able to tow it that far and not have any problems???? It has a decent sized 4.3L Vortex V6 in it so I know it can(for the most part) I'm just worried about it being to tough for it and the top speed only being like 45mph the whole way back.....

The only time I've ever had to tow something its been with a full size chevy, or with my step-dads V6 Toyota, but that was with a a tow strap....

What do you guys think???? She said she is up for letting me use it and taking a road trip with me but I just want some of your input first....

If I decide not to use her's I have to talk my buddy into taking a road trip in his Ford Lightning, I know that truck can handle it, we take his boat out with it about every weekend...

The blazer should handle it without much of a problem. If the blazer is an auto, I would advise to keep it out of O/D though. Those tranny rebuilds are very pricey.

yea you got it. I towed my 87 turbo 30 miles with a full trail. Using a 4.9 liter v6 ford that had almost no brakes

I towed a F/S 89 Chevy 1500 pickup (shortbed) from Denton to Houston with a 87 Ranger 2.9v6*

*(had factory tow package incl. 3.90 final gear.)

4.9L Ford is a 300 I-6, and while not fast, they will pull an unreal amount. I have one in my '80 F150, wouldn't believe what I have pulled with it over the last 7-8 years....................................

Read the owners manual. It will tell you exactly how much it can tow safely. Lightnings are not meant to tow.

I know but I don't think it would have a problem towing it....

Read the capacities of the lightning and you'll see what I mean. I'd use the blazer.

Lightings are made for speed as well as the Dodge SRT Ram

A buddy towed his 240Z with a 1st gen lightning no problem. It squatted like a fat bitch in the woods, but it did the job.

Exactly. The suspension is not designed for it and you can cause premature wear.

But Hey,

If you can afford a Lighting AND a 240Z and keep them both running you've obviously got money.

Yeah and he tows a boat with it about every weekend with no problems, I know a boat is much lighter(I think) then a car but oh well.

Oh and I found a 87 Turbo II(with a rebuilt motor, just broken in) here local, and if everything goes well tom it will be mine!!!!! So I guess I won't have to put any truck through towing the first gen....

I'm guessing that was sarcastic or you have no idea what either are worth...
