Bad Coolant Seals
Bad Coolant Seals
Well it finally happened, I found out I have bad coolant seals
so I need a re-build. I had Steve Kan over at Gotham check it out for me when I was in the area last week. Anyhow so now I have to pull the motor and get another one in there so I can enjoy the car and get it ready for show season.

I will be living in Plano, Just did the walk through of the house earlier last week and finished it up this week. I'm amazed at how cheap houses are here in Texas compared to California.
Anyhow my wife and I just got back from living in Japan for the past few years (military) and we have spent time with family in So Cal and here in East Texas. She got picked up by a company in Dallas and I am working on my second masters, not sure if I want to start working while I'm doing my second masters or wait until I am finished with it.
So yeah I guess I will have a nice little project with the rebuild. I was thinking of having Gotham Racing do the motor for me but a friend of a friend of my dad owns a Mazda dealer out in So Cal and said he could get me a Reman motor for $1500 with no core charge and a warranty. My dad painted a couple of his cars 67 Mustang and 68 Shelby Mustang (this one has won best paint at 4 car shows)for no charge so it's kind of a paying back for the favor thing.
So I am contemplating the reman thing, it's cheap, pulling and swapping the motor is a weekend job (single turbo makes things so much easier), and if the motor goes south I can get another one with the warranty.
What do you all think?

If you dont go with the reman, BDC does great work, he is located in Grand Prairie. His website is www.bdcmotorsports.com. Take a look at his work, its hard to beat.

I am really leaning to the reman because it's cheap and easy. Nothing against any of the shops like Gotham Racing or BDC or any others out there. I've meet the guys at Gotham Racing and from my experience they all are great guys and Alex, George and Steve gave me some options if I wanted a motor built there. But it’s hard to beat a 1500 dollar motor. Plus it will give me time to decide what I really want to do with the FD.
Do I want to keep it and really go all out with a half-bridge port, or just a really aggressive stage 3 port, or get it fixed up a little more to show it during the upcoming show season and then sell it. It's tough because it’s kind of fun having a JDM FD in the states. Then there is the crazy route of getting a 3-rotor form my buddy in Japan and doing a half bridged 3-rotor. The options are endless.
