Anyone interested? I would consider doing it. My contributions include driver ability, heck I finished 1st/21 and 2nd/19 this past weekend at SCCA races, $$$, race car fabrication experience, general wrenching and mechanical abilities, truck and trailer, etc.
What I don't have is space to prepare this project, welding or roll cage fabrication access, limited motor knowledge.
Teams are 4-6 drivers. I'd prefer to use a 2nd Gen (and have more stuff already to fit that) but a 1st Gen would work as well. It's a long ways off but if you have an interest and can contribute more than just being a driver, maybe we can put something together.

Looks like we are off to a good start with a potential team. I think we can do it with 4 drivers/team members total. The more people the more complicated things get. Others interested? I should say my goal would be to win, participating is good but winning is great.

Basically, you can not spend more than $500 to buy/build your car. Tires, Wheels, Brakes and safety equipment are not included in the $500.
Your car can also be crushed at the end of the competition or bought for $500 from the organization. So, don't plan on bringing it home, be lucky if you do.
Not sure if you can get your expensive seat back, lightweight wheels, etc. if they crush your car. I haven't read everything yet.
You really are building a dirt cheap race car, the key is to make it reliable. I'd replace all the possible breaking/failing parts. Maybe even put some cheap/used shocks on it, change the wheel bearings, re-do the brakes, etc. The things got to go for 24 hours!

I have a TII Chassie that is straight and ready, I do engine building also, If we can get some seals and stuff from the Rx7club I will port the irons i have and build the motor. Motors are my strong front.
13B Full BP with a Carb 300HP = The Win.

Tires, wheels, brakes, exhaust after header and safety are not included in the $500. We need to get a car and do suspension/motor and car acquisition with $500, if it goes over hope not to get caught. Be prepared to never see the car or it's parts again. Obviously we can't have any labor charges, only parts and used ones are fine. We aren't talking reservoir shocks here.
They have the BS factor which means they can nail you if they think you've spent over $500. They also have the right to buy your car for $500 at the end of the race, crush it, or if it's still alive take it home. I'd plan on not ever seeing the car again, no need for a $1000 Racetech seat.
HP isn't going to win it, you got to keep it running for 24 hours and not hit anything. That means skilled and smart drivers and getting good condition wear items (bearings, clutch, solid tranny, replacing rubber lines, maybe some bushings). There is not a lot of very long straights at MSRH, it's a 2.38 mile 17 turn track. Handling and braking are going to be very important. 300rwhp would be nice but can it take 24 hours and not cost a fortune to build? A stock motor may be fine with good compression.
You can also sell off parts to recoup your $500, so there is some margin there.

That's got to be the entire braking system, meaning the car needs new pads, rotors, maybe rebuilt calipers (maybe a spare set or two of pads/rotors as well), ss lines perhaps and a non-leaking master cylinder. All that stuff is cheap, except for the Hawk blue pads.
What's the tank capacity on a 1st or 2nd Gen? I run a cell so have no idea. I get around 7mpg on track with a non-ported 13b in my car. I run a 1:50 lap or so on the 2.38, that's about 32 laps an hour or 76mph. Should go through about 10-11 gallons of gas an hour roughly.

Allright, well i think ya'll can count on me and chuck (RX7nut) having a team.... And its on for the dalles crew
Anyway, expect a buildup thread in the next months.
oh so now when theres a use for it its YOUR TII chassis? but when it needs to go to be parted and go to the junkyard its MINE!?!?!

Speaking of which, all you potential Lemon drivers should be at MSRH doing some HPDE if you don't have a comp license. NASA is running MSRH on Feb 9-10, that's the only date this year. Get info here or PM me if you need help http://www.nasatxracing.com/

So if you don't have a competition license you can pay 50 bucks the day of the race to run, I have run MSRH a number of times just on my free time, just never have gotten a competition license.
Keith you are always welcome!!
Just have to get ready for
amount of track time

Haven't done any serious looking, I'd prefer a 2nd Gen as I have some parts, have a few sets of wheels and know these the best. Just need to fine one running with some body damage and it could work.
Alternative is a banged up race car for cheap, I'm checking with a possible lead now. Having to put in a cage is going to be expensive, finding a car already caged would be the way to go.
