[DFW] Autocross in Mineral Wells on April 30

Equipe Rapide is holding an autox in Mineral Wells this Sunday. More specifically it's what they call a mirrorcross; a poor man's version of ProSolo .

Basically there are two mirror image courses side by side. Two cars line up and after a drag race start they each complete one side of the course. After finishing they immediately switch sides, line up at the start and do it again. This is the perfect opportunity to prove once and for all that you're faster than so and so because you can go head to head! It's a lot of fun and only happens once a year.

This event will be good practice for the ProSolo coming to town on May 20-21:

Even novices can enter; you'll have a blast.

That does sound pretty sweet.
I just went out to Mineral Wells last sunday though for PCA... and don't feel like making the journey again.

Let us know how it goes.

What I learned this weekend:

Off the line an FD is no match for a GT3. I was happy with my launches but the GT3 pulled on me instantly every single time.

AWD is tough. Did you make up time later in the course?

The GT3 is 2WD.

The reason you got beat on the launch is weight distribution. Namely, the rear-engine.

So how'd the results turn out otherwise?

...and that it makes 400+ horsepower and had 315's on the rear

I think there were 9 in SS and I ended up 5th; perhaps even 6th. I'm sure results will be up in a day or two. I was ***** out on all 12 runs trying to keep up with the fast cars and I only made 3 or 4 clean runs the entire weekend. I don't believe any of my fast runs on the left were clean all day and that killed me overall. I was trying to pucker up nuts close to everything in order to hold my speed and kept clipping the bases of cones.

I was consistently over a second slower than the GT3. I'm told I was making up ground on everyone through the pair of tight slaloms but I always lost more than that everywhere else compared to the GT3 and Z06. I could keep up with the Z06 at launch, but the GT3 would walk from me the instant we hit the gas. Surprisingly the Elise was quick off the line as well. I didn't realize they were so fast from a stop.

Results are up:

I ended up sixth. If I had kept my fastest run on the left side clean I could have had fifth. No way I was going to catch the rest of them though. Fun day.
