Yay...another GT40R about to hit the road

Seeing Carlos and Michel's threads kinda stokes the fire w/ getting my car running soon.

Anyhoo, I don't think too many ppl have posted results from their A-Spec GT40R installs (and I still am not ready). But here are a coupla vids my friend took of it idling...needs maps and tuning badly. That's not me doing the commentary as I slacked off that day.

Silencer On Idling

Silencer Off Idling

BTW, Sean, if u read this, apparently there's a leak in the v-band b/w the turbo and the dp...how can one sinch it up more? Shims? gasket?

I could be wrong, but what i have always heard about v-bands is that they will leak at first but after a few heat cycles (run it some) they will come together and form a better seal.

I often weld a shim or large washer to tighten things up, and then grind it for a nearly exhaust leak proof seal. You can also get a very large exhaust gasket, and cut it to fit. I use a little dab or two of high temp silicone to keep it centered while clamping everything.

Welcolm to the club, Hegehog!

LOVE the idle! Been thinking about more advanced ports for my next build; your idle is quite motivating.

As for the v-band seal, I guess I got a break from Lady Luck on this one as I have had no problems to date.

Please keep us posted on you progress.

Welcome!! I guess I never took to many pics after my install last year. I think I had one of Sean's first in the group buy that was shipped out. Anyway my dyno is up on the dyno.zerograps site.. (If you need the link let me know). Turbo kit is great you will be happy. Sounds like a jet once you spool her up! My motor is coming out this week for rebuild and porting. Should be back in 1 to 2 months.

They wont always leak at first but you are right about letting the exhaust system heat cycle a few times it has worked on numerous occasions. The clamp I think he is referring to is made to fit the odd style flange. It could just be a matter of slightly adjusting the Dp angle.

I also had a leak when I first installed the kit but I just readjusted the DP and that solved the problem.

Sean, I have sent you an email. I am wondering if I should send in my turbo for a larger backside? Is this .84 going to be ok on a large port? I know it should spool like crazy but will it fall flat up top? If I send it in how long will it take to get it back?

Congrats on getting the car up and running. The idle sounds really nice too. What kind of port are you using?

Hi T,

I ditched the AVC-R eons ago...have the A'PEXi Boost Control Kit on but can't tell if it's good enough. How's your car running? You've been incognito of late. Care to share a map to get a poor soul running?
