XS engineering street kit not CA legal!help!!

I wish I would have known before I bought this kit(XS- TO4E street kit) for my 93' rx7.Cause it said street kit, I thought its ok for street, but it makes it so I cant run all the smog equipment. And I also found out it was ilegal for my mechanic to take off smog stuff and to even install any of it knowing im using it as a street car(not off road).Does any one know if theres any addapters or brackets to make the smog equipment go back on?

I also found out I can force my machanic to take it all of and put stock turbo back on.but I rather just sell it,then to deal with all that mess.

so basically my car is Ilegal to drive in CA.

If any one has suggestions or help, or any thing please post!!

NO. There are NO single turbo kits that are CARB legal for the RX-7. Period. Kits that allow you to keep the air pump are not street legal, they'll just allow you to pass the sniffer test, assuming you are still running a cat.

Superfoot: How in the hell could you not know that going single turbo was not CARB legal in this dictatorship?

I'm from the midwest. It's called winter and I don't like it.

Also, take the entire population of Minnesota and pack it into an 10-mile square area and then see if people care about emissions....

Good point. Buy 1/10 acre in Montana or something and register it there.

it is legal if you get to keep all the stock smog equipment.

NO, IT IS NOT. And if you don't believe me, go ahead and install a single turbo kit that lets you keep the air pump and then go to a legit smog shop and see what they say.....

first of all the XS kit doesn't allow you to retain teh smog equipment

second of all, if a cop wants to pull you over and write you up and give u state ref even if your kit is "street legal" he will do so.

Assuming you could pass the tailpipe test, you won't pass visual.

Just out of curiousity, has anyone on this board ever passed the tailpipe with a single with the smog equpiment on?

In NY we can just slip a $100 to about 1/3 of the mechanics out there and they'll pass the inspection for us. They don't even use your own car. Is that not possible in Cali?

The people in this thread that don't live here have no idea what they are talking about. It is almost impossible to successfully NOT register your car here. Cali has set up very strict laws about this. You may get away with it for a while, but in the end, you will get caught.

As far as bribing goes, I'm sure there are places that that is possible. The new dyno tests however preclude the casual mechanic from even offering smog testing, so it is not as easy as that. Personally, I found a smog shop that will overlook visuals (to an extent), as long as you pass the sniffer test.

There are very, very few, CARB legal modifications to our FDs. Almost all of us risk large fines to drive around, as even a downpipe is very illegal (hard to catch though).

I'm pretty sure Foko passed smog with his ex-CYM racecar with an RX6, N-tech HFC, and some lean PFC tuning. But as rynberg points out, you'll fail the visual if anyone is paying attention.

No if the cops impound it they wont really do anything unlees they caught u street racing then they'll take a good look at everything and now they even take your car away for good. But if the chp impounds it they will over look the car real good for any illegal parts and they make u put it back to stock

I drive the streets of CA with a ported engine that almost sounds bridge and single turbo set up,and i have tags that are up to date, with no problem from cops the only thing they've pulled me over for is not have my front plate. You could find a lot of smog places that will pass smog for u.Damn i wish i was in New York right here in L.A. u wont find anyone that will do that smog test for u under $150 and thats cheap!
