Will a streetport be enough for a GT40R?

I'm purchasing an FD soon and it will be rebuilt, ported, and single turbo'd right off the bat before I even take delivery. Question is, a GT40R will be installed and I don't know if a raceport would be neccasarry... I'm looking for a max of 420-440 rwhp. Will a streetport be sufficient or should I do a raceport?

So let me get this right.

You have never driven an FD and you want to hop in a 450+rwhp FD. Please be safe call an ambulance ahead of time.

With an aggressive streetport, a good fuel system and that sized turbo you should be able to meet your power goals.

YES!

CarlByck made over 500RWHP with a very mild street port with a 67mm P Trim, with all the support and a good tuner of course.

Many newbs who never owned or driven a high performance sports car have wrecked even stock FDs due to inexperience or stupidity.

Now increase the power to the wheels by over 80% and the chance for disaster greatly increases.

The post is relevant to a newb buyer.

haha, you guys are too funny. you don't know who this guy is, he might have a 1000hp golf cart in his garage for all we know, jumping to the conclusion that this car will be too much for him is one i'm not gonna make.

anyways, back on topic, maybe it's just me or maybe i've been away from the scene for a little too long...but isn't a 40R a little inefficient for that kinda power? i'd imagine a streetport would suffice, might be a bit laggy though.

You guys act like a 400 hp RX7 is fast. Who's to say that this guy used to own a 1,500 HP Mustang ?

You've got plenty of stock cars these days that would embarrass a 400 HP RX7 and plenty of bolt-on cars that would rape a 500-600 HP RX7.

Yes, I have a large streetport and a GT40R with a 1.06 a/r exhaust housing and my car made 439rwhp @ 15 psi and a bad leading coil on pump gas(93octane) tuning.

You're going to have to populate a list for me. Considering this model years vette weighs 300lbs more than an FD... so are we in viper land or shopping italian?

People on the boards have eclipsed 400rwhp on stock ports, with the right turbo 400rwhp on a street port & fresh rebuild should be fairly easy. Follow the builders recommendations on break in time though.

this made me laugh my *** off.. obviously you dont know how fast a 400rwhp fd is.. probably never even rode in one!

i have personally witnessed 390fwhp civics rape a 700rwhp supra. saw both dyno sheets prior to race.. held the $.. the supra dude couldnt believe it.. the civic guy wamped his ***.. so hp is not everything.. torque really isnt either.. do some research..

1500whp is useless.. your not in a fuggin funny car.. your not going to have slicks 3 feet wide to get all that power to stick..

in answer to the question.. i think the street port would suffice.
if you are a nubie to fast cars.. i would keep the boost relatively low until your more comfortable. when i first got in my fd.. i was out of control at 300rwhp. i really am surprised i didnt wreck it.. (o wait i did.. 85 into a fuggin pole.. its almost fixed now.. i got a new motor, front clip and everything) so learn from my mistake.. dont go nuts.. stay within your limits.. or you will cry like i did when you see the tow truck have to haul it away..
1500 hp

Hahaha isn't viking war hammer "Lupe" with a name change, that had a rediculous 600+ HP lightweight drag FD? LOL that posted everywhere that it was for sale, whoring every thread.

Anywho there's always a time and place for high HP, like 1,500...Pikes Peak, Dyno Challenges etc.... As far as driving on the street...well it'd be really good training for throttle control I imagine.

400hp at the wheels isn't absurd for the street unless you are driving around at 5k+ rpm everywhere you go. There'll be enough lag that you should be fine for street driving in your torqueless low end 2-3k rpm range. Moving from 200hp '84 to 300+rwhp FD I find the 300 had more risk because of low end torque where the FD is a nice gentle ride until the turbo spools up. Fear the spool of doom! I am an FD noob, so take what I say with several grains of salt. Cheers!

You're right, 1500 wheel horse power is useless in a streetcar.

Yes, a streetport will be enough to run a GT40R. End thread.

i guess i'm a little late with saying yes, a good streetport and the GT40 should meet your goals.

however, my real reason for posting this time is simply because the thread has supplied me with my first good laugh for the day. thanks, sleeper7.
