WHoohoo, just got my 87 volvo intercooler, but its oily inside, how can I clean it?
It looks to be in perfect shape. zero bent fins and I pressure tested it to 25 psi.
But its oily inside. The side tanks are plastic and I think the core is alluminum, but its painted so I cant be sure.
what can I use to clean the oil out.
I could be wrong but wont the oil act as a insulator.

Just fill it full of mineral spirits or a mixture of water and "purple" degreaser. Shake it around and rinse it well, should be fine. I wouldn't use laquer thinner as it may be too harsh on the plastic(if it does have it).

I just use gas. out about half a gallon in it. Shake the **** out of it for awhile. then dump it out. Then get an ait compressor and blow it till it's completely dry.
