Who in your opinion has the best clutch

Im just wondering if there is a better clutch out there, I have the ACT 6 puck and I think its about to go. Id like to know your experiance with any other brand, and how long it lasted you, i know thats hard to say because it depends on how you drive your car, but just an idea. Also if you have ever had a ACT 6 puck and changed to something else if you liked it better. thanx

ACT is about as good as it gets, I hear nothing but good things about ACT, I have a Center Force Dual Friction, and its okay. I've heard horror stories about Center Force and you have to be careful breaking them in. I'm going with a ACT next.

I've been using a combo that's been working and I have also used it on a 550+HP rotary and it's been holding up, what it is is a RPS Diaphram and a Racing Beat 6 puck with springs (so not to shock the drivetrain at 9kprm launches) Pretty good, but expensive.

The ultimate would be a twin or tripple disc form Tilton!

I like my ACT. I use the street/track version and I have had no problems with my 400+ RWHP single. My stock rear end will go before the clutch.

I knew a guy who had one. The thing grabbed like crazy, but if he didn't use the car for a while he had trouble pulling it in and out of his driveway.

I'm using an ACT pressure plate with a clutchnet 6 puck disc with springs, and it holds up very well.

tilton clutch

I have heard good things about these clutches. It's also equipped in
the fastest rx-7 in the world so that show that it must be good. I was
just wondering who sells them. I've been looking around for a long time now
but i still haven't come upon a company that sells them.

clutch

Mazda motorsports sells tiltons I think they cost about $800 with flywheel. I dont know how streetable anything like that would be though. Has anyone run a os giken is a copper or organic? is it sprung? how much do they cost. Every now and then someone will bring them up and talk about them like theare solid gold. Just wondering if its just the normal Japanphile thing or not

I have the Mazdaspeed twin plate clutch and it is an excellent clutch. I've used it for 6000 miles now and it's still perfect. It should support up to 1000hp. It's not that difficult to drive either. Well.....if you compare it to stock, it's quite different. Grabs really quick. Didn't like it at first, but got use to it after 100 miles of stop and go traffic and everything is easy now. Most of the time I can make it really smooth at take off and shifting. If I drive another person car with a manual, and then drive my car afterwards, it takes me like a couple of minutes to get use to it. That's how different it is!!! It's not like I kill my engine or anything, but I do take off kind of hard at first. Still, it's the best clutch I've used so far and I don't have to worry about upgrading my clutch if I go into super high horsepower range.

I've been using the Tilton twin dics setup for 5yrs without any problems. They last forever and can take anything you can give it! I beleive I've only changed the disc at least twice when it was on the street about 25k miles of very hard abuse. In a drag car they can go almost two seasons before change.
The kit from Racing Beat, Mazda Comp etc. comes with two basic set-ups. Either with a light flywheel for road race or heavy for drag race. You can also contact a Tilton dealer for different pressure/spring plate ratings to suit your needs. Also everything on the clutch is rebuildable!

$949 from Racing Beat. You'll also need the counterweight.

I didn't know that you could get parts for it so easily. I heard that if you slip them they can go bad.

If it works for you it should work for me.

ACTs are usually best for street applications.

I too use the tilton twin 7 1/4 " clutch (rally spec) and it is perfect, there is very little wear and the progressive nature of the clutch is unbeatable for a unit that will support up to 1100n/m of engine torque or over 1200bhp.

I have used my unit for 3 years with only two clutch disk replacements due to a twisted input spline on my gearbox (little to much abuse !), the rally spec tilton has very meaty pucks on it and is perfect for street/strip/circuit use...it will last you a long time.

Part no for the rally spec disks is 64185-7-A-30 and the pressure plate part no is 66-302HORA.

Want some more secrets!
Each spring is rated by the color stamped on it!
The spring rate X the # of discs= Total rate
eg. orange spring X 1 disc= 250ftlbs
X 2 discs=500ftlbs
X 3 discs=750ftlbs
Grey spring X 2 discs=750ftlbs
Guess which one I'm running!

I run the orange with a twin disc. Mines came with the grey but it was way to harsh and would destroy a tranny on every shift. Even my friend with an 8 sec drag 7 is running with the orange spring. He also use to run the grey spring but after breaking a couple of parts in his G-Force that cost $$$$$$$ to replace he switch to the orange!
