RX-8 transmission? Heh. I believe it's similar to the Miata's 6-speed, which isn't strong in terms of torque capacity.

the only difference between the RX-8 Tranny and the Miata is the bell housing otherwise they are identical.

NO NO.

THE RX-7 transmission will be much stronger

The RX-8 transmission is not design to hold the TQ of turbo

and these type of transmission dont got very good rep use in high TQ CAR
(IS200 6 Speed. S15 6speed. mitata 6 SPEED. are all made by similar parts)

oh if you have money G-force T5 is cheapest you can buy

look at all the high horsepower single turbo FD's out there using the stock tranny. Then look at the amount of RX8 trannies broken already with mild upgrades in power.

search this forum, you'll see plenty of proof stating the use of a stock turbo trannie is mucho better than any of the non-turbo ones, including the rx-8. i plan to upgrade to a stock tII trans.

As someone else already stated... even with little or NO mods to an RX-8, it breaks transmissions. Many people run 4, 5, or even 600 rwhp cars with no transmission problems using the RX-7 transmission.

The FC turbo and FD transmission are a derivative of the R-Type transmission originally used on Mazda trucks, I think.
This is one of the strongest manual transmissions used by Mazda.
The RX-8 is not derived from this lineage.
As some have mentioned, it's the RX-8 transmission is more closely related to the Miata transmission (which is not as strong as the R-Type version).

coming from an 8 owner, I'd first like to say not having a turbo sux, and that the trans on the 8 is def. weaker than the 7t

Judge Ito broke the rx8 tranny twice trying to get his RX8 into the 13's......and even after busting 2 transmissions he still couldnt get that pig into the 13's. Granted he was abusing it.....but a RX7 trans would last with major drag strip abuse WELL into the 10's and still be reliable.

What is it about the RX-8 transmission that makes it weaker than other 6-speeds?

the rx-7 transmission rocks
I love how the shifter feels and I always shift fast and sometimes hard into 2nd and never had a problem with either of my 3d gens. 93s tend to have that 5th gear synchro problem because it's a weak part.

the r type was introduced for the rx2 in 1971, it was updated around 86 for the turbo cars, 929, rx7, b2600, mpv etc

the rx8 is a totally new trans, built by assian or something, its been so/so. its shared with the 6 speed miata

It's because manufacturers (in a NA configuration)only design transmissions to handle the hp and torque levels of the engines they are matted with. Those transmissions will always be much weaker that any transmission designed for FI, which the Rx8 isn't currently designed for.
