What would make my turbo glow?

So i drove home tonight not pushing it, 75% of the time 4&5th doing 55-65mph and drive 2 miles, pushed it for about 1/2 a mile then drove 5 more miles home. popped the hood when i got home and the turbo was glowing a little. few nights ago i was running normal for about the same drive with out any pushing and it was glowing alot. what could be causing it the glow?

Normal. They do that. Don't worry about it. If you don't have a turbo timer"for people who should not own turboed cars", let it run a minute or so, before you shut it off.

If your leading coil isn't firing it will make your turbine glow as well. Similar to having a timing retarded too much except probably alot more of the combustion is occuring in the turbo. But if your leading coil is toast your car will be hard to start as well. I had a crane ignition box installed improperly by a "professional" and it blew up 2 sets of leading coils. Car was a bitch to start, boosted like mad but had no power and after a short drive the turbo hotside glowed... pretty bright glow too.

I have seen my turbo glowing so hot that it looked a couple of degrees from melting. I am amazed that it keeps spinning, and without spewing oil, time after time. I will continue to abuse it, fondle it, torture it, covet it, full throttle it, until it is dead.........I fear that it may outlive me.

yea, other than normal operation, common stuff that will make the turbo glow:

too much or too little fuel
too much or too little timing
MISFIRE! ( coils, ignition, etc)
plugged exhaust
