What is the real difference between AC and WG control

How does a boost controller function differently if the waste gate type switch is set at "AC" or "WG"?
That is ACuator or WasteGate.

Does one respond faster than the other, or is the cyclic rate for the solenoid different?

I would like to know the functionality for each type!

The biggest difference is external wastegates have two pressure inputs, and internal/actuator wastegates have one input.

On an actuator wastegate, you apply boost pressure to a diaphragm, and when the pressure is high enough, the diaphragm pushes against the spring to move the rod that opens the wastegate.

An external works exactly the same way if you only hook up the bottom nipple. The top nipple lets you introduce pressure *above* the wastegate diaphragm. This lets the boost controller hold the wastegate closed, and gives much finer control over the position of the wastegate's valve.

It's like trying to turn a screwdriver with one finger instead of your whole hand.

Anyhow, flipping the switch on the boost controller tells it what type of control it needs to use on the wastegate. You can run an external like an internal wastegate, but you lose some of the control advantages of an external.

Make sense?

Yes it makes sense, but I alreaday knew this.

My question was
( "How does a boost controller function differently if the waste gate type switch is set at "AC" or "WG"?)

Like it's output signal to the solenoid.

I doubt anyone on this forum knows this unless they work for one of the companies making electronic boost controllers!

we switched from a stock hybrid to a full t04 with an external wg and the profec a went from working to not opening the wg at all, until the dip switch was set properly. i know thats not too helpful but there is a difference there
