This is why I stayed away from it. It has a lot more features than the PFC but few people seem to have figured it out on Rx-7's.

General driveability seemed to be smoother on the Microtech. The idle hunting on the PFC really got on my nerves as some days it would be fine then with temp changes it would hunt even after making numerous adjustments. With the dongle for the Microtech, initial setup was a breeze. I never had the datalogit for the PFC so I can't judge setup ease on the PFC laptop interface. At the time I purchased my PFC the ecu+commander+datalogit would have cost approximately the same as the Microtech+upgraded igniter+dongle. The other thing I liked about the Microtech was the fact that the wiring harness was new for most key components you use, so it gets rid of those old crusty wires albeit a bit more complicated to install as it's not just plug and play. (unless you purchase the PnP adapter)
I have since gone with an SM4 as it seems to have a lot of great features. Setup is quite complicated as it is my first time with this particular ecu but I have no doubt it will be worth the time.

Thank you for your input. Now I am even more confused and hard to choose between the 2 =*(.

Well does the Microtech have any feature like the PFC where you can datalogit thru a computer/laptop for tuning rather than their controller? Beacuse I would rather want to have a laptop which can provide me with much more detail information while tuning. Thanks.

Oh, by the way what's the "dongle" for the microtech? Does it come with microtech or is it a separate unit?

I personally run a electromotive tec3r and havent heard anything bad yet about it. If heard some disappointing things about microtech and I know my tuner hates tuning them.

I say get a PFC, it works great with almost any applicaton and is user friendly. You can also buy Chucks notes to help you on the road of tuning your car yourself.

already bought his notes for tuning =). Thanks Charlies7. Oh by the way, I've send the guy @ ACC regarding the fuel system, I am very interested and might buy a set soon depending on the application I am heading towards.

Glad to see other guys recommending the TEC3. I also highly recommend the TEC unit. Electromotive uses their own crank sensor with their own coil packs and of course their own ECU. They are also in the US. I liked that a lot.

I had a Haltech, which is made in Austrailia. I used the stock mazda crank angle sensor and used american made coils (MSD's). That setup worked but I was more confident in the TEC unit since each was made by the same company to work together..

Installation is pretty straighforward. Tuning (I think) is relatively easy. You have a wizard that you follow through that will start the car and get it running. There are a number of resources on the web to help you with questions. Electromotive is there to answer your questions as well.

After I setup the TEC, I had a lot of questions, Dee Karagiannis of Reactive Racing spent time with me on the phone and AIM and answered all my questions so I understood the basics. He never charged me even though I did not buy it from him but did tell me I have to do the "payback" method where I do the same for others

Here are a few resources, I suggest you download the manual and take a peek, it's very informative.

http://www.electromotivegroup.com/index.php

If you have specific questions, let me know.

I personally run a E6k, but i would like to upgrade.

The E6k runs the car very well, but it lacks many of the features a newer ECU has especially in the logging area. I think if i upgrade it would be either to a Haltech E11, or to the newer Electromotive GT, but i wouldn't count out the high end microtech either.

So how much do you have to spend ? if you would prefer to buy a good ECU , that DOES EVERYTHING and TUNES ITSELF ! instead of building engines , then check this out https://www.rx7club.com/engine-management-forum-37/ecu-739622/

I am looking for something easy as in self learn and tune. Paying some1 to do the work for me where can I find the excitement in that?

I think I am capable of doing my own work and having everything in my own style. But thank you for your input nonetheless.

That's weird...Sporty's 6 second drag car is run on microtech. I'd say that is proboably high-powered. It's the same old song.. Pick whatever you can use that has local tuning support. It is all about proper tuning. G

Does the PFC require a full rewiring? As in a ton of work to try and do yourself?

No, it is plug and play, no wiring at all

Awesome. I hate wiring so the plug and play is easy one two three.

What is the cheapest you guys have seen the PFC for?

Haltech E11V2. It is user friendly. Large knowledge base. Easy diagnostic. New wires.
I had an experience with IntX (microtech) on RX8 - terrible ECU.

I use an Autronic SM4. Mainly because of how good the fuel control is, and the insane amount of functionality you get. I'm also a fan of the MoTeC x00-series ECUs, but I'd rather tune the Autronic.

Haha,. I'll offer a dissenting opinion: I would rate Electromotive's products as some of the worst in the industry. I'm actually surprised they're still in business.
