WG springs

is there any way to test unknown springs to see what therating is on them?
i have a WG from Au that came with 3 springs. leaving all 3 in, i cant even bost enough to open the WG. goes well over 20LB. with the lowest one it opens right up at 5LB. with the 2 lowest ones, it STILL opens at 5LB...
its pissing me off. i could not get my AVC-R to controll it(which i always had great success with an internaly gated turbo), so i made a manual one. i am able to get it to open at different boost level, but it takes forever to go past 8lb. am i missing something here?
i am running a boost source to the side for the diaphram adn controlling the signal w/ the homemade controller to the spring side (top). same effect happens if i am running nothing to the top and controling the amount of boost signal to the side diaphram port... this is not brain surgury, but it is pissing me off. how can i tell the spring rate so i can try controlling UP from there???
WTF?!

We could go thru the f=kx linear spring relationship but why. It's a pain to swap springs but you should be able to test the opening pressure with a hand pump and a boost gage, or maybe call the folks you bought it from ... ?

the spring will compress at 5lbs correct?... if so go get some weights and set some on there to see when it begins to give... maybe I'm wrong... just my sometimes misinformed $.02

If you guys are referring to hand pumps to apply pressure to test say a FPR for say, then most auto stores have them.

I have a bicycle tire pump plumbed into a silicone hose with a tee to a boost gage. Run the open nipple on the tee to a hose and attach to whatever you need to test on the car.
