Unhappy wastegate for gt 35/40 kit pos?

Well I drove up to KDR today expecting to have the car tuned for 15 psi and to get some hp numbers. My boost controller had stopped working the other week (or so I thought) so I asked Dave to check it out. After playing with it for a while, he informed me that the wastegate was leaking. I saw it with my own eyes as Dave pressurized the wategate with a hand pump so that it opened, and watched the air leak out according to the gauge. This cause the profec b to be incapable of controling boost. Dave thinks its the diaphram. I'm pretty pissed off because this is a brand new wastegate (don't even know what it is, I think 45mm) and it almost caused my new motor to blow. After less than 1000 miles, I was driving on the highway and punched it, only to see the boost skyrocket to 16 psi+. Luckily I noticed and quickly backed off. This was on my drive to Texas, and I had to be very careful and baby the car the 2nd half of the way there. Not fun at all. Dave is going to contact the RPM tomorrow and find out how to get a replacement. The fact that no one knows what this stupid wategate is makes it even worse. I think I want to ditch it all together and get a tial or something. Is there anything out there that fits the 4 bolt patter of this wastegate? Or am I going to have to have the flange cut off and welded onto a new wastegate. I have the optional dump tube plumed back into the downpipe, so that would have to be redone as well. Mine isn't the only incident. My friend's car has the same turbo kit, and his wastegate also leaks, just not as bad. He can control boost fine, but the wastegate opens too soon. BTW, the dyno is down again. Not that it mattered because we couldn't tune for more than the 7-8 psi I get on the wastegate spring. Not upset with Dave or KDR at all. **** happens, equipment breaks. I'm just mad about the wastegate.

i assume you are talking about the PSR wastegate that tim sells. Those wastegates are used on both circuit and drag round here and are very popular because of their reliability. I have one on my car and have not had problems in the year and a half it has been on the car.

Hopefully this is just a rare incident because I am very happy with the rest of the kit.

I hope this is the only problem, I would be pretty pissed if I paid 4K for a turbo kit, and the wastegate (which one is it) was garbage and blew the engine and turbo.
Good luck.

I don't think it is the spring. Whe wastegate starts to open right at 7 psi, but doesn't hold pressure. Has to be the diaphram.

Tim at RPM thinks my problem is elsewhere, but Dave checked everything. I'll call the shop tomorrow.
Thanks.

I've seen this problem on some wastgates (not familiar with yours but it may apply..)

The valve in the wastgate is attached to a shaft and the shaft attaches to the center of the diaphram.. there is usually a threaded end with a nut on it. If the nut comes loose the shaft will still stay in the diaphram, but air will leak around the saft to the other side and it will leak the boost off... Usually you can just take the top off the wastgate and tighten the nut and put it back together, just watch you fingers because the spring in there will try to take them off... I've also fixed a few with small pin holes in the diaphram by putting a dab of sylicone rubber gasket sealer on them and they continued to work great with that little fix... good luck..

This is Silver93tt posting (too lazy to log her out and log myself in) I called A-spec and spoke with Sean, nice guy. He said to send the wastegate in and they would send me another one. I still have to talk with Dave at KDR but I will probably just pull it and overnight it when I get home on Wednsday.
