Wastegate Sizing

Ok,
Does anyone have a good formula or something to determine the right size for a wastegate? I'm building a ported 13b turbo and aiming for 400hp, what size wastegate should I use? What factors are there for choosing a wastegate? Will a 38mm wastegate work? Thanks

38mm would be ideal for what you're doing. Basically, higher boost=smaller wastegate, while lower boost =bigger wastegate. A 38mm is good for your set-up.

I'm also aiming for around 400 at 1bar and was told a 44mm is best because of the rotary's massive exhaust output, especially with porting.

38mm is too small.
Run the biggest you can get.
Running anything smaller will guarantee you'll get boost creep.
We typically run the biggest Tial (46 / 44) or HKS Race 50mm or GT / GTII 50mm or 60mm.
Yes, they cost a lot of money.
How much is preventing a blown engine worth to you?

44-60mm will allow you all the room you need, just as Ted said.

Boost Creep

this will also be agravated if the wg is "T" into the manifold rather than "Y" in.

use the same dia tubing and make smooth transitions
