Wastegate noise at idle?

Should you be able to hear just a tiny bit of exhaust noise from an external wastegate with a dump pipe at idle?

Or does this mean there's a leak?

I'd say there's a leak. I had to use a copper gasket to seal one of my wastegate V-Bands.

I'd say leak too.
I've had some wastegates go back on and I forgot the fire-ring flange that seals between the manifold and the gate.

Definitely a leak. If too much air is getting past the valve, your entire setup will work harder to build enough boost.

Thread resurrection!

I took my WG off and the valve doesn’t hold water. It has a bit of play, and doesn’t consistently seat with the fire ring.

I guess that explains the feeling that there exhaust coming out of the dump pipe. It also might partially explain my boost issues?

I can’t seem to get the not holding the valve off, though… I think it’s a special nut of some kind.

I don’t even see where I can buy new internals, other than springs and diagrams.

I just pulled the downpipe and realized there’s a small crack in the weld to between the pipe and flange… wonder if that wasn’t the source of the noise.
