For weeks now I've been reading the forums and have been trying to make up my mind about what size and what manufactured wastegate to buy...think I can come up with a solution...no!

A quick rundown of the setup S5 13B Bridgeport Turbo, microtech LT10S, fueling I'll be running standard rails, 850 primary, 1600 secondary. Aeromotive stealth fuel pump and aeromotive regulator. Turbo is a Masterpower R596, .96 hotside with a t4 inlet. Racing Beat Rev II exhaust.

I only want to run about 15psi to get the 400-450hp, and by doing this...from what I understand...I'll need to run a larger gate!

Now down to the discussions of wastegates!!!

From all I've read the 44mm or 46mm will be too small so that leaves me with the ones listed below:

My choices are 50mm Synapse, 50mmHKS, 60mm Tial or 50mm turbosmart.


So far the synapse is loosing the vote, nobody seems to like the o-rings they use to seal with, thats fair enough as I don't know any o-ring that would be able to withstand extended exhaust temperatures.

The HKS is one of the favorites but it's a couple of three hundred more expensive.

That leaves the tial 60mm ot the turbosmart 50mm.

What are peoples thoughts on these 2?

 

Wastegate placement is more important than wastegate size. If you are running a manifold that does not have optimal placement you will want a 50+mm wastegate. My vote is for the Turbosmart 50;

Turblown, have you had any experience with the turbosmart products, I've read mixed reviews about them?

When you talk about optimal placement, is that just concerning the physical size of the larger wastegate or are you talking about runner design etc?

 

He is talking about where the wastegate is placed on the manifold. There are good and bad locations, and a nice flow path is usually what your looking for. But truthfully...any info turblown gives you is gold. Elliotte knows Rotary...and turbo's/forced induction. Not trying to be a fanboy of turblown..but I am because they've ALWAYS helped me out with my build/products I was purchasing and build planning.

From what I've read in past forums Turblown seems pretty knowledgeable, I checked his web site and he sells both Tial and Turbosmart products, so it must be saying something.

 

We've switched over all of turbo kits and builds to use the TurboSmart stuff. I know the owner and I've got a lot of other friends with shops that have really put their stuff to the test.

 

Synapse sells a good 50mm WG as well. I switched from my Tial 44.
