Question V-Band clamp question -- too narrow?

Okay, so I bought this V-Band clamp to go on my TO4E, but it appears to be too narrow...

I haven't selected my exhaust yet, so I don't know how wide the flange will be on the downpipe, but the flange on the turbo appears to completly "fill" the clamp.

In other words, if you look at a cross section of the empty clamp it looks something like this: \____/

I would expect the turbo and the downpipe to be approximately half that width, right? So all together it would look like this: \\_||_//

But right now, the turbo would fit like this: \|___// and I have no room for the DP flange in the clamp.

Okay, so this is a little difficult to explain w/o pics. If it's not clear, I'll get some pics when I go home. Do I need to machine off some material from the turbo? If so how much?

Or do I simply have the wrong v-clamp? A little confused here because I've never actually used one of these things to know how they should look/fit.

thanks!!

You would be owning a Garrett V band housing(old school I believe, these are thicker, I know some people machine them, Call ATP, or Precision Turbo, they are big Garrett houses, and should be able to help. Carl

You did a good job of explaining. I didn't realize that there were different V-bands, butttt..... Mine fits kinda like you are saying, but my flange on the DP is really small. It's almost like a little piece of bent steel like _| and then my turbo V-band is as you described |_/ so when then are put together it goes like this \||_//. I think you're probalby OK. Do my pics make sense?? I think I can get some pics...

Just buy the tube flange and the turbo flange from TURBONETICS and weld them on , I had a similar experience with my "old" T70 , I ended up machineing the turbos' flange , but it did not fit perfectly and always had a small leak.
