V-band clamp question

Hey guys,

I've got an A-spec kit, and the turbine to downpipe connection, the manifold to wastegate connection, and the wastegate to downpipe connection are all V-banded. I'm new to V-bands, so my question is how tight should I tighten them down?

1. Should I just tighten them until the nut feels good and tight?
2. Should I keep tightening until the V-band is completely closed?
3. Should the V-band close all the way pretty easily? Mine aren't.

Thanks!

- Andy

Tighten it until you hear knuckles start cracking, then back off 3.5 turns.

did a bit of poking around and seems like 110-130inlbs is standard for vband clamps, atleast for the turbo to dp one

I just installed and tightened these on an A-spec 500r kit... the only one I recall that tightened up ALL the way was the wastegate to downpipe connection (the smallest one I believe). The rest weren't all the way, but just get them pretty darn tight withought breaking any bolts.

make sure to go through and retighten the clamps after you drive it for a bit, they seem to seat themselves a bit and need to be cranked down again after a while

Ok thanks guys. Since I can't get the vbands to close all the way I was concerned something was wrong, but it sounds like that's pretty normal. I'm hoping to get the car started over Thanksgiving, so we'll see if I've got any leaks then I suppose .
