Turbonetics Warranty?

I've had my turbo in my car for approx. 2500 miles. The car smokes, I wasnt sure if it was the engine or I would have returned it awile ago. The turbo has shaft play and signs of oil in the compressor housing. Has anyone had this same prolbem? It kinda pisses me off knowing that this turbo was bad from the begining. Does anyone know if Turbonetics will replace/repair my turbo under warranty if one even exists or am I going to be out of more cash?

Thanks,
Brian

They warranty their turbos for one year (after date of purchase).

I bought T04B from them and it had some shaft play in it. They sent me a dry chra and I wanted dry/wet one.

When I received the new one, it had no shaft play in it. Really I do not know how much shaft play you can have so I would have installed the turbo anyhow.

I hope mine lasts. Sorry to hear about yours.

Thanks for the compliment. Im going to have it sent out tomorrow next day air hoping they can turn it around for me pretty quickly. My turbo has about 1/16" movement in the shaft from side to side. I hope it doesnt take long to get this turbo fixed. I need to have it back in action ASAP.

I currently do not have a restrictor inline to the turbo, im using a -4 feed and a -8 drain line. Should I have one in and what do I use as a restricter? I do have a crank case breather though. Im going to sent it out and see what they say.

On my TD07 I was told to use a .085" restrictor before the turbo.
Just an example, not sure what you should run with your turbos.

You should be using a #10 drain line at minimum.
Also depending on oil pressure a restrictor in the feed line would help.
Some side to side play is normal but back and fourth(thrust) play is bad.
Hope they warranty the turbo for you.

I have a -10 drain but I was unable to use it due to where my turbo is located. The fittings where too large and there is not enough room between the fitting for the hose to bend to the location I need it.

I use a 1/8 npt allen plug in the oil inlet of the turbo and drill the plug to whatever size I want. Normaly .065 to .085. Sometimes depending on the turbo manufacturer you might have to fabricate a new oil inlet adapter. Instead of using the regular inlet fitting on the turbo itself you'll have to use the oil inlet flange that bolts to the turbo and screw the oil feed line fitting into that.

I will be using a tubuler manifold
a design like that of the A-Spec tunning

Ok that sounds right the -AN allen plugs have threads on the outside
cool thanks Chris! I know how to do it now

1Fast2 you have a high pressure regulator (RB)
and this is why you need a restricter

I just bash in the stock one for higher pressure

usally for a restrictor i use a 80 thousands weber jet or a N2O jet, works great, a -8 return will work fine , but you cant go too big on the return line!!

UPDATE: I returned the turbo today to the dealer I purchased it from. While I was there he called Turbonetics, they are going to repair the turbo under warranty. It has been sent out 2nd day air and was promised to be returned within 2 weeks. Not bad I guess.

This is what I did for my mitsu turbo. I drilled the M10 banjo bolt out to 1/4" then taped for a 1/16" socket head pipe plug. Drilled the plug out to .085" and BING I have a oil restrictor The best part about doing it this way is you can change the oil resatrictor out to another size if you need to.

I have been waiting on a turbo from them for 3 months now! They have lied to me several times!
I wouldn't buy a piece of bubble gum from them now!

I know your feeling. I have received a promise from them though telling me I will be receiving my turbo back in less then 2 weeks. They respond good to harsh words.

I had to finally call them and tell them that if I didn't have my turbo tomorrow, don't bother sending it!
I saw it the next day, however, they sent me the wrong V-Band, so it looks like I'm not done with their poor customer service!
Hopefully I can get it done before they go out of business!
Operating a business like they do, usually ends up in failure.
