Question turbo spool needs to be quicker w/60-1

i recently have gotten my project together only to have a slight disappointment.....when i am driving in fourth gear at 55mph and punch it, it doesn't make full boost until around 51/5200RPM. and when i shift to the next gear, recovery is for the birds as well.

i mean, i could take a nap before i hit full boost.

under the recommendations of a forum member, i have the exact turbo that he specified - garrett 60-1 w/.70 comp and 1.15 divided turbine housing. i need to know how much sooner it would spool if i get a 1.00 divided and if there would be any issues of using a non divided (.96 a/r) on a divided manifold (OBX).

variables to know:
large streetport
greddy fmic
pettit resonated mp
tanabe catback
power FC
and too many other things to type

Your problem isn't your turbo sizing, you have issues some were. Check your wastegate and make sure it closes and opens when its suppossed to and check ALL plumbing for leeks and or connections popping apart (all intake from the turbo to your block and all exhaust plumbing). Also tuning plays a huge part on turbo response...... if your fuel and or ign timing is off you can have spool up problems. Also......... Brand spankin new turbos some times can be a bit tight and spool will quicken as it breaks in, but never should it be as slow as your seeing.

well, everything on it is brand new. i have the HKS 50mm wastegate that is dumped to atmosphere so i would know if it were open. tuning is not a problem as a well known person is taking care of that. and i'm pretty sure that all the connections are tight as we were constantly finding new places that had to be flared and reconnected. by the end of the night, the ic piping was of no concern but still major lag.

i just left the place that i bought the turbo from and he said that it is a different wheel than jsut a standard P trim. i don't know whether he is blowing smoke or not but that it will cost me $150 for him to have to replace the turbine housing and shaft because of the different wheel....? its not just bolt and play like a figured. that sucks. all the damn money i've tried to save from doing a kit myself has probably surpassed the amount of just buying a proven one that is just bolt on with a little modifying at worst.

w/ a q trim, you can go even smaller than a 1.00 housing and still make sufficient power.

there is nothing wrong with a 1.15a/r if its a P trim, if its a Q trim it could be pretty laggy

my turbo spools way before that roy....something else has gotta be up. i've never measured it, but am pretty sure i have a P trim exhaust.

with bad motor compression i could still get 15 psi by 4500 rpm....

another person with my same turbo with a good motor cited spool at 3500-3800 rpm
