Turbo Recommendations? (275rwhp, street driven?)

Hey guys!

I was wondering what your recommendations were for about 275rwhp. I've got a 1990 TII motor (stock internals) that I wanted to do this to. Also, is this achievable on about 10 lbs of boost? I plan on driving this in the street and around the windy roads close to my house :-)

Thanks!,
Manolis

P.S. I'm 17 and working at 7 bux an hour, so no 'plasma-coated bearings' **** please

Think about this....

Take your car as it is...fun, pretty quick, a nice little get up and go car. You start to modify it. You buy the intake, exhaust, blah blah blah. All the sudden you car starts to get faster and faster. Your fun car just got, ummmm, funner. This will make you want to buy more and more things for your fun car to make it even faster, and once again, ummmmm, more funner

It's called the horsepower bug at it will bite your *** HARD! Trust me dude...if you buy some small turbo to get your 275 rwhp goal you will NOT be satisfied. You will only want to go faster, and faster, and faster, until before you know it you are running up against crispeed doing low 9's @ 150+.

I should be able to scrape up about $800 for a turbo (Is that a reasonable #? )

Going to attempt to make a manifold myself...

What do you guys think about a T04E with about a .96 A/R exhaust housing? (or am i just waayyyyy off? )

Thanks!,

a cheap turbo to make 275rwhp get a upgraded compressor on your 90 turbo, cheap way to get a good boost in performance and you wouldnt have to get a monster fuel system and ecu. one of those piggy backs should work nice unless you want a haltech or what not.

whoops, too late :-)

I've already got a Haltech coming (thanx BadAss )... so....

Say i wanted like 320 rwhp... I'm thinking a T04E -- does that sound about right (maybe a .96 A/R exhaust?)

Thanks!,
Manolis

In case you haven't noticed yet, I don't know much about turbos :-)

Dave at KDR says I should get about 400rwhp at 15psi with my T04e kit with my mods.

I have around 245 rwhp with the mods below running between 8-10 psi. Right now tuned conservatively with lots of fuel and decent timing because of high intake temps.

With a new front mount IC and some more tunning with the haltech I should put out at least 300 rwhp.

www.turbochargers.com will upgrade the stock unit to a TO4B/T3 hybrid that will net you 300 RWHP fairly easily.

T04E specs?

What would be the HP and spool-up characteristics of, say, a T04E with a P-Trim compressor and a .96 A/R Exhaust housing? (and what other dimensions on a turbo are there?). Say it's running 10psi of boost

I will eventually figure this out

Well I am not a TII owner but I would imagine that the stock Motor and turbos may be suffuciant to make 275HP. Correct me if I am wrong but I would think just turning up your boost would make much more power without spending all the $$ for a new Turbo. Unless yours is junk get a ECU MOD that runs more boost and maybe a downpipe and An Intake. I dunno what a stock TII makes for RWHP but I am sure 275 isnt out of site for stock Motor/Turbos with some Computer Mods. I know yyou mentioned making 275 at 10psi but why? Why Not make the Power at 15 psi? Making 7 bucks and hour doesnt go much further than buying gas and Paying for oil changes and general maintinence. I say Try and make the best power you have with the parts you already have. Just an idea for a guy on a budget.

A t04 is efficiant around 15-18psi.. It is a little big for the horsepower you want.. That is not bad because you will probably want more..

IF you have a haltech buy some 160lbs/hour injectors from www.precisionte.com (they are 1680s) and get a t04 60-1 .96 a/r

This will get you ~400rwhp at 1 bar...

Or just get your stock turbo upgraded a little.... A t04 60-1 can be had for around $700

My friend made 235 on the stock turbo with piggy backs.. With a haltech you should be able to do a little better..

Thanks Zyounker!

That's the info i was looking for :-)

Anybody have a dyno chart (preferably torque) for a 13BT with a T04 of these specs on it?

Thanks!,

Check out www.turbo2mazda.com he has a t04 60-1 .96 a/r

He did 355 RWHP with the tunning not right.. and a restrivtive exhaust..
The dyno sheets are on his website..
